「約1万1千～1万2千年前の縄文時代草創期の竪穴住居跡が確認された南陽市赤湯の北町遺跡で、内陸部の縄文遺跡としては全国的に珍しいマグロの骨が出土した。当時から内陸部と海岸部で人的、物的交流があったことが推察され、愛知学院大の長井謙治准教授（先史考古学）らが8日から、現地で2年目の発掘調査を始めている」
「最初の本調査は、昨年8月9～25日に実施した。地下約4.7メートルまでの範囲に計17の地層を発見し、10層（地下約4メートル）の竪穴住居跡から約2センチ大のマグロの骨と哺乳動物の骨などを見つけた。東海大の丸山真史講師（動物考古学、海洋考古学）が鑑定したところ、成長段階のマグロの背骨の一部と判明した。長井准教授は、昨年の調査を「これだけの内陸部で海洋魚の骨が見つかったこと自体、驚いた」と振り返る」
