institution

元女優のArlenaが絞殺された事件が発覚し、ホテルの滞在者、従業員は次々と調べられます。さて、今日取り上げる単語も馴染みのあるものですが、"Evil Under the Sun" の中で次のように人に対して使われているのは初めて見ます。
"Well, sir, Albert, the Master Dotel, came to me from the Vincent at Plymouth. He was there for some years--one of them four. They are very naice (sic) lads and most respectable. Henry has been here since the hotel opened. He is quite an institution."
さて "institution" とはどんな人でしょう。

なるほど、名物と言われるような人に対しても使えそうですね。
