Good morning and I appreciate your visit to English Plus blog!
English Plus is a small language school located in Tamachi, Tokyo.
We're providing fun, student-centered, practical English lessons.


Today, let's learn about some English vocabulary which we can see in Eiken exams.
English Plus is a small English language school for both adults and kids.
About kids lessons, there are two kids' courses available; one is for "Junior high school students", and the other is for "Elementary school students."
The lesson for elementary school students is now for over 6 years old (more than elementary school grade 1) and they can learn some basic phonics, vocabulary, grammar, and some basic conversational expressions.
The aim of this kids course is that "we would like our students to master some basic English skills."
In the lesson, our students can learn a lot of vocabulary and expressions, and today let's learn about some basic vocabulary.
Today, let's learn some tools in English.
Now, let's try some quiz - please read the following Japanese & change each word into English. (Answers are below.)

3. ごみ箱

5. くぎ

Today, let's practice English from English Plus' lessons.
At English Plus, we encourage our students to try to speak English a lot especially during lessons.
Once in a while, they make some mistakes, but they really try hard and try to express what they want to say in their own words. (Great Job!)
Through the lessons at English Plus, I realized there are some mistakes our students often make, so today let's review not to make the same mistake again.

Good morning, and thank you very much for checking out English Plus blog.
Today, I'd like to report the current situation of new English Plus.
As you probably know that we moved to our current location on August 1st, and since we moved in, busy situation still continues.
There are some reasons why we are busy, and one of them is that we have to organize our goods which increased gradually for the past 6 years.
Our current location is a little smaller than our previous one, so we were thinking about what the best way to organize our stuff.
One of our staff members said, "let's make our original items" and we decided to make one by one.
We prepared necessary goods, such as wood, tools, and so on.
Mainly on the weekend, we try to make our original items step by step.
It takes time and energy, but it's also fun to make our original space.
It might take a little more time to complete English Plus' interior, but we're trying to make a good place for our students to study more, and a good working place for our staff.
We'll keep supporting our students' improvements on English skills at English Plus.

I guess some of you clean your house every day! (or once in a while!)
When you clean your house, what tools do you use?
"soujiki?"
"houki?"
"Matsui-bou?" (At English Plus, this Matsui-bou is very useful!)
Today, let's learn these cleaning goods in English!
For instance...
・vacuum cleaner
・broom
・dustpan
・garbage can (or trash can, waste basket, dustbin)
・cloth
・mop
・bucket (or pail)
・cleaner (or cleanser)
When you use one of them above, try to call it in English!

本日は“意外と知らない日常の身近な英語 - 掃除用具に関する英語”です。

今日のブログは家の掃除に関することですが、毎日、家の掃除をしていらっしゃる方や、時々、家の掃除をするという方もいらっしゃると思います。

実際、掃除をする時、皆様はどのような掃除用具をお使いでしょうか？

“掃除機？”

“ほうき？”

“マツイ棒？”
（余談ですが、English Plusでは、マツイ棒がとても役に立っています！）

今日は英語での掃除用具の言い方を学んでいきたいと思います。

例えば…

・vacuum cleaner （掃除機）

・broom （ほうき）

・dustpan （ちりとり）

・garbage can (or trash can, waste basket, dustbin) （ゴミ箱）

・cloth (or rag) （ぞうきん）

・mop （モップ）

・bucket (or pail) （バケツ）

・cleaner (or cleanser) （洗剤）

上記の掃除用具を使うことがあれば、英語で思い出してみましょう！

Today, I’d like to write about the consultation I had yesterday.

Yesterday, after I had a business meeting in Shibuya in the morning, I moved to Kawasaki to take a business consultation in order to make my English school business successful!
The consultant was a medium and small corporate business consultant, Mr. Koji Takeuchi.

The main thing I learned from his yesterday was “how to use Facebook” for business.
I have my personal Facebook account and I usually use it for my personal use.
However, I never had an idea of using Facebook as a business tool until yesterday.
From Mr. Koji Takeuchi’s consulting, I was able to learn how to use some applications related to Facebook.
Hopefully, I can make use of these useful modern tools!

昨日は渋谷での英語レッスンに関する打ち合わせが終了した後、川崎に移動し英語学校起業成功のためのコンサルティングを受講しに行きました。

コンサルタントはいつも親身に相談に乗ってくれる、中小企業診断士の竹内幸次先生にお願いしました。

昨日のコンサルティングの主題は“Facebookをどのようにビジネスで使うか”ということでした。

個人的には以前よりFacebookのアカウントを取得しており、プライベートでは使っておりましたが、ビジネスのツールとして使うことになるとは思いもしませんでした。

昨日のコンサルティングを通して、Facebook上でのTwitterやBlogとの連携などアプリケーションの使い方などを学ぶことができました。

まだまだ学ぶところが多いですが、Facebookに限らずいろいろなメディアを使って、英語学校の成功に結び付けていきたいと思います。

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

本日は“英語を社内の公用語にする企業について”英語講師の観点から述べてみたいと思います。
（以下、あくまでも個人的な意見ですので、悪しからず・・・）

現在、日産に代表されるように英語を社内の公用語として使う企業が増えてきています。

最近ではユニクロ・楽天といった企業が英語を社内の公用語とすることを発表しました。

英語講師として“会社の国際化”つまり“国際的な競争力を高め、勝つ”ということを考えた場合は、英語を社内の公用語とすることに賛成です。

個人的な意見として、英語も日本語もすべての言語は“コミュニケーションをとるためのツールの１つ”にすぎないと思っているのですが、実際の“英語講師として”の本音としましては“英語が自由に扱えるようになれば、可能性が広がる”ということを個人的に経験している点からも是非、できる限り皆様に挑戦して欲しいというのが本音です。

“自分の能力（英語力、英語力向上に伴う交渉力、コミュニケーション力等）を伸ばすことで、（個人として・企業としての）可能性を広げる”ということが前提あれば社内の英語公用語化に大賛成です。

ちなみに、お隣の国・韓国ではほとんどの大企業は新入社員にTOEIC９００点を義務付けています。
（これは、会社の国際化のため・個人としての能力向上のためだと聞いたことがあります。）

日本も同じことをする必要はないと思いますが、今後、英語を使う企業はますます増えてくると思いますので、社内の公用語の英語化の機会も“前向き”に捉え“可能性を広げるため・自分のため”にもしっかり取り組んで損はないと個人的に思います。

仕事ができる人は必ず英語もモノにできる！！と信じ、本日もTOEICなどのレッスンに行って参ります！！

Nowadays in Japan, there are a lot of companies that adopt English as a company's first language, such as Nissan, Uniqro, and Rakuten.
I'm in favor of this trend only if these companies seriously aim at competing in the global market and win.
I'm certain that if each employee can improve his/her ability with trying to master English, his/her company will also get a lot of benefits after all.
(I mean mastering English is not only mastering English itself, but also learning how to negotiate and communicate with others.)
Personally, as an English teacher, I think any languages including English and Japanese are just one of "communication tools".
Even though English is one of communucation tools, I recommend trying to master it because if you can master it, the result will make a big difference!!
The one great point of being able to communicate in English is that you can really expand your possibility!!
In the South Korea, a lot of major companies require applicants at least TOEIC 900.
I heard it somewhere before but this "requiring TOEIC 900" is for the company and for his/her own ability.
I don't think Japanese companies should do the same, but I'm pretty sure that more and more companies will adopt English in the future.
Therefore, I hope more and more people take this trend as a good opportunity and improve their own ability to be more active in the world-wide market!!
