English Plus is a small language school located in Tamachi, Tokyo.
We're providing fun, student-centered, practical English lessons.


Today, let's learn about how to describe taste in English.
English Plus is a small English language school for both adults and kids.
There are two kids' courses available; one is for "Junior high school students", and the other is for "Elementary school students."
The lesson for elementary school students is for over 9 years old (more than elementary school grade 3) and they can learn some basic phonics, vocabulary and grammar.
The aim of this kids course is that "we would like our students to master some basic English skills."
In the lesson, our students can learn a lot of vocabulary and expressions, and today let's learn some basic vocabulary about stationery.
Now, let's try some quiz - please translate Japanese into English. (Answers are below.)

1. 鉛筆
2. ボールペン
3. シャーペン
4. サインペン
5. 鉛筆削り

After mastering the vocabulary, let's try to make sentences, such as "I have a (an) ..."

Good morning, and thank you so much for stopping by English Plus blog!
English Plus is a small school located in Tamachi, Tokyo.
We're providing fun, student-centered, practical English lessons.


Tomorrow is the New Year's eve, and I'd like to look back on this year as an English instructor at English Plus.
A lot of things have happened here at English Plus in 2022.
The impact of COVID-19 pandemic was still remaining this year so we couldn't hold many activities and events, such as annual Christmas party.
However, we were able to finish our business safely this year thanks to a lot of people's support, and I'd like to write about what we've done at English Plus.
For instance:
・We were able to celebrate 11th year anniversary on Oct 1st
・We started a new service for Day care (Nursery School) and Kindergarten
・We will be on TV tomorrow, Dec 31 2022
・Some English Plus original items have been added, such as original bag and stationery goods
・Instead of Christmas Party, we held a month long "Christmas Month" event
・Zoom online lesson for our current students is available
・Zoon school information session is also available
・Some junior high school students passed Eiken Grade Pre2 & Grade3
From my point of view as an English instructor, most of our students' English skills have improved continuously this year too! (Great job!)
We really thank every one of English Plus' students, supporters, staff members, friends, and family.
We'll keep making efforts to provide better English lessons, support, and service at English Plus next year too.

Probably you can name some of them.
There are a lot of office supplies, but some of them are recognized in Japanese-English, so today let's learn some supplies in English; for instance...

・ゴム印 = rubber stamp
・書類用クリップ = paper clip
・ノート = notebook
・のり = glue

If you have need to use one of them above, try to think it in English.

Good morning and thank you so much for taking time to read English Plus blog!
Today, I'd like to write about our kids lesson at English Plus.
English Plus is mainly an English school for adults. However, thanks to some requests, we started a new course for kids last autumn.
The new course is "Phonics + Basic English skills for kids", and it's for over 9 years old (more than elementary school grade 3).
The purpose of this kids course is that "we would like our students to master some basic English skills which can be useful and practical when they become adults."
In order to get our students to master some basic English skills, we offer some fun English lessons.
One of them is "phonics lessons."
Through the phonics lessons, our students learn some basic vocabulary, and can pronounce the words correctly and read English sentences naturally.
Mastering phonics could be very beneficial since it'll be possible to read out loud the vocabulary that they see for the first time, and they can increase vocabulary a little more easily, and phonics can be useful when they learn grammar.
The other is "basic English lessons."
After mastering basic phonics patterns, our students try to read books.
Through reading books together, we teach vocabulary, grammar, how to read and comprehend English.
The final goal we're hoping for our students is that we'd like our students to make original English sentences by themselves, and they can communicate smoothly in the future.
In the lesson, our students learn a lot of vocabulary, and today let's learn some basic vocabulary about "stationery."
For instance...
1. notebook（ノート）
2. mechanical pencil（シャーペン）
3. glue（のり）
4. scissors（はさみ）
5. ruler（定規）
The first step for kids to master English is to read the vocabulary out loud correctly when they see the alphabet.
After they can pronounce the vocabulary correctly, let's use the vocabulary in a sentence, such as "Can I use your...?"（あなたの…を使ってもいいですか？）
In our lessons, our students enjoy learning and using English since our kids instructor is Haruka, who has had over a decade career as an English instructor, and not only the career but her character is cheerful.
I'm sure kids will enjoy learning English with her.
Currently our kids lessons are on Tuesdays and Fridays.
The maximum number of the students in each lesson is 4. Therefore, when we have 4 students in a class, we'll stop accepting new students without notice.

Christmas is coming very soon, and today let's learn some English expressions for Christmas (& New year) cards today.
Sending Christmas cards is still not as popular as sending New year cards in Japan; however, I can find Christmas cards at stationery stores in Japan.
In Japan, sending Christmas cards is not popular yet in some countries such as Canada is as important as sending New year cards in Japan.
Today let's learn some English expressions that can be used for Christmas (& New year) cards!
For example...
・Wishing you a very Merry Christmas.
・May the miracle of Christmas fill your heart with warmth and love.
・Wishing you and your family a warm and wondrous Christmas and an amazing new year.
・Wishing you all the joys of Christmas and happiness through the new year.
・I’m not sure what you wanted for Christmas, so I just got you this card. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
