English Plus is a small school located in Tamachi, Tokyo.
We're providing fun, student-centered, practical English lessons.


Today, I'd like to write about our Business English courses.
Since English Plus started in 2011, we have made and provided a lot of lessons for our students.
For instance, for adult's students lessons, we have...
・"Skill-Up Conversation course" to get basic English skills for communication
・ "Power-Up Conversation course" to improve fluency, and communication skills
・ "TOEIC exam preparation course" to achieve their target score of the TOEIC exam
・"Travel Conversation course" to enjoy traveling abroad, and so on.
For kids' students, we offer...
・"Kids English course" for elementary school students
・"Junior high school English course" for junior high school students
In addition to these courses, we have a special course for business people "Business English course."
In this 90-min lesson, our students can learn "how to introduce themselves in business situations", "how to make small talk", "business phone call", "business e-mail", and so on.
Through this course, we hope our students can master basic English skills and communication skills for business situations.
This year, we've checked the whole curriculum and improved each lesson to provide better English lessons.
Now it's done, and we are currently looking for those who are interested in learning Business English.

We're providing fun, student-centered, practical English lessons.


Today, I'd like to write about our Business English courses.
Since English Plus started in 2011, we have made and provided a lot of lessons and courses for our students.
For instance, "Skill-Up Conversation course" to get basic English skills for communication, "Power-Up Conversation course" to improve fluency, and communication skills, "TOEIC exam preparation course" to achieve their target score of the TOEIC exam, "Travel Conversation course" to enjoy traveling abroad, "Kids English course" for elementary school students, and so on.
In addition to these courses, we have a special course for business people "Business English course."
In this 90-min lesson, our students can learn "how to introduce themselves in business situations", "how to make small talk", "business phone call", "business e-mail", and so on.
Through this course, we hope our students can master basic English skills and communication skills for business situations.
Now, we're checking the whole curriculum and each lesson, and after we complete the whole course, we'll let you know about this Business English course on English Plus' official website, Facebook and this English Plus' blog.
We're thinking about starting this new curriculum next spring.

English Plus is a small school located in Tamachi, Tokyo.
We're providing fun, student-centered, practical English lessons.


Today, let's learn some English vocabulary from English Plus' lessons.
During English Plus' lessons, our students usually have a chance to talk about a wide variety of topics.
In the lesson, they talk about a topic, and one of the topics they talked about recently was about natural disaster.
Japan is an island country and because of its unique geography, it is prone to a variety of natural problems, such as earthquakes and typhoons.
This is a common small talk topic that our students often talk about during lessons.
In order to enjoy having a good conversation naturally and freely, in addition to basic English knowledge of grammar, vocabulary is important.
So, today let's learn some English vocabulary about natural disaster.
Now, let's check the vocabulary below.
・地震 ＝ earthquake
・津波 ＝ tsunami
・地盤沈下 ＝ land subsidence
・液状化現象 ＝ liquefaction phenomenon
・噴火 ＝ eruption
・土石流 ＝ debris flow
To master vocabulary, you should...
・Read out loud
・Write
・Check the spelling carefully
There are some other vocabulary words about natural disaster, so if you are interested, please check out by yourself.
You might use the vocabulary above during conversation sometime in the future, so let's get prepared for such an opportunity from now.

Today, I'd like to introduce some useful English phrases for taxi drivers.
In Japan, there are a lot of occupations that need English skills.
One of the occupations that need to speak English is, I guess, tax drivers since there are a lot of foreign tourists visiting Japan.
So, today I'd like to introduce some English phrases for taxi drivers to make small talk.

Today, I'd like to write about our new Business English course!
Since last November, I've been working on Business English lessons.
The main reason I'm working on this is we want to provide better English lessons for our students and they learn something useful!
It's been taking quite long time because I've checked each lesson again and again.
However, it's finally going to finish withing this week!
With this new Business English course, students can learn English in several business situations, such as "telephone", "meeting", "making small talk" and so on.
The total length of new Business English course is 20 weeks!
It's once a week course and if you are interested in Business English, please ask us!

本日は“新しいEnglish Plusのビジネス英語レッスンのカリキュラム完成間近！”についてです。

昨年の１１月頃から、新しいビジネス英語レッスン提供のため、新たなレッスンの作成・調整をしています。

ビジネス英語レッスンの手直しをしている主な理由としましては、“もっと良いレッスンを提供して、生徒の方々に使える英語を習得してもらいたい”からです。

１つ１つのレッスンを念入りにチェックしているため、かなりの時間がかかってしまいましたが、今週中に新しいカリキュラムでレッスンが完成しそうです！

新しくなったビジネス英語コースでは、ビジネスでの様々なシチュエーション（例：電話応対、会議など）での英語を学び、自分の言葉でコミュニケーションできる能力をつけていくことを目標にしています。

新しいビジネス英語コースは、週１回で計２０レッスン（５ヶ月）の構成となっています。

Today, I'd like to write about my recent travel experience abroad.
At the end of last year, I was abroad and had a chance to use English.
This time, I went to some asian countries whose mother tongues are not English.
What surprised me most was that almost all of the people whom I met and talked with were able to communicate in English!
I asked for directions and had a small talk with taxi drivers, local pedestrians, janitors, coffee shop clerks, travelers and so on.
I could communicate in English with most of them!
Even though their English was not always easy to understand because of their pronunciation and grammar problems, we had no problem communicating in English.
From this experience, I felt that English has truly become the world common language and in my opinion every Japanese should learn English in order to communicate with people around the world.
We don't have to master perfect English (grammar and pronunciation) since it's not necessary just for communication!
English is not difficult!
Let's get prepared from now!

本日は“英語講師の年末の海外旅行から学ぶ英語に関する話”です。

昨年の暮れは海外にいたこともあり、英語を使う機会がありました。

この旅では、英語が母国語ではないアジアの何カ国かを訪れましたが、驚いたことに、お会いしたほとんどの方々と英語でのコミュニケーションをとることが可能でした。

タクシーの運転手、地元の方々、掃除の人、コーヒーショップの店員、旅行者など色々な方に、道や方向を尋ねたり、スモールトークをしましたが、ほとんど問題なく英語コミュニケーションが大丈夫でした。

正直なところ、お会いした方々の英語は発音や文法の問題もあり、少し理解が難しい点がありましたが“英語での意思疎通”という点では問題なかったと思います。

今回の旅行で個人的に感じた点は“英語が世界の共通言語”になっているという現実という点と、アジア諸国に負けない位、日本人も“英語コミュニケーション力（挨拶・意思疎通）をつけるべき”だと思いました。

英語でのコミュニケーションを図る上で、文法・発音などネイティブ並みの英語力をつける必要はないと個人的に思います。

まずは“相手の言っていることが理解できる”、“簡単に自分の意思が伝えられる”英語力が必要だと思います。

英語は考えるほど、難しい言語ではないので、少しずつでも英語力を伸ばしていきましょう！

Needless to say, introducing oneself is the most primary and it’s especially important in business situation because good first impression lasts long.
To introduce oneself, there are a lot of ways to say.
Let’s see some phrases to introduce oneself…
・It’s pleasure to meet you, (Mr.../Ms...)
・It’s nice to meet you, (Mr.../Ms...)
・I’m glad to meet you, (Mr.../Ms...)
・Thank you for meeting me today.
Here are some phrses to respond…

In addition to introducing yourself, you can make some small talk, such as…

ここで言うまでもありませんが、日本語、英語に関わらず、自己紹介はビジネスの場において一番最初のコンタクトになると同時に、第一印象となるので、とても大事です。

良い印象を残すためにも、英語での自己紹介のフレーズはしっかり覚えておいて損はありません。

今日は、いくつか英語で自己紹介をする時に役立つフレーズを見ていきたいと思います。

例えば・・・

・It’s pleasure to meet you, (Mr.../Ms...)
（～さん、お会いできて光栄です）

（はじめまして～さん）

自己紹介に加え、スモールトーク（短い会話）も加えると更に印象が良くなると思います。

Today, I'd like to write about "my favorite place to walk in Toronto."

In Toronto, there are a lot of great places to walk around.
As I mentioned in the link above, "High Park" is one of them.
However, personally, I liked walking in "The Beaches" the best!!
(Even though it's called "Beach", you know there is no ocean in Toronto, but lake Ontario.)
It's located around Lake Ontario and on the east south east side of Toronto.
In "The Beaches" there is a sidewalk, so it's easy to walk!!
When you go there in different seasons, you can see different sceneries.
People there seem enjoying their own time and look very happy.
So, if you want to feel relaxed, visit and walk "The Beaches!"
By the way, when I was resting on the bench in the Beaches, I was talked to by an unknown person and had a small talk.
So, when you are resting on the bench, you may be talked in English, so please be ready to speak English!!

本日は“英語講師の留学経験 （散歩でリラックス in Toronto）”です。

トロントでは“散歩”するのにとても良い場所がたくさんあります。

上記のリンク“英語講師の留学経験 （トロントでの休日の過ごし方）”の中で紹介しました"High Park"も“散歩するのにとても良い場所のひとつ”です。

今回は、個人的に一番好きな“トロントでの散歩場所 - The Beaches”をご紹介します。
（“The Beaches（ビーチ）”という名ですが、ご存知の通り、トロントには海はなく、湖-Lake Ontarioがあるのみです）

“The Beaches”はトロントの南東部、オンタリオ湖の周りに位置しています。

この“The Beaches”には遊歩道が完備してあり、いつの季節でも歩きやすいように工夫されています。
なので、いつの季節でも気軽に散歩を楽しめます！！

また、心なしか“The Beaches”で時間を過ごしている人々は皆、リラックスし、幸せそうに見えます。

もし、コーヒー片手にリラックスしたい時は“The Beaches”へ！！

英語に関する余談ですが、一度、この“The Beaches”のベンチで休んでいた時に、見知らぬ人から英語で話しかけられたこともありました。
内容は忘れてしまいましたが、このような出来事もあるので、簡単な英語（挨拶など）は学んでおきましょう！！

おはようございます。英語講師のarataです。

本日は“英語学校のレッスンのモットー”についてです。

昨日、ようやく３ヶ月コースである "Business English" （ビジネス英語コース）が完成しました。

いろいろな方のビジネスの場での英語での“やりとり”や“悩み”をお聞きし、何度も修正し、１２回（３ヶ月のコース）のレッスンに仕上げることができました。

具体的な内容としましては・・・

・海外のクライアントの方々とコミュニケーションを円滑にする会話の方法
・日常業務においての英語応対
・英語での電話（海外にかける/日本で電話を受ける）

などスピーキングを中心としたコミュニケーションに加え、自分の英語学校の "Business English"コースでは、

・社内での・社外へのE-mailの書き方

も勉強する予定です。

英語学校のレッスンのモットーとしましては、“いつでもしっかりと生徒の方のニーズにあったレッスンを提供し、本当に使える英語力を養う”ことなので、
今後もレッスンを実際に行いながら、必要に応じ修正を加えていく予定です。

今日も一日、自分の夢の“英語学校”に向け、しっかりと準備です！！

Good Sunday morning!
Today's topic is about "My English school's lesson motto"
Finally, I was able to finish making my new English course "Business English" yesterday!!
I've asked several people about how they use English in their business.
After that I organized thier ideas and I made these lessons:
・how to make small talk in business situation more effectively
・how to use English in your office
・how to make a phone call & receive a phone call
and also, in my English school, I'm going to offer the next lesson too.
・how to write E-mail
This "Business English" course is composed of 12 lessons. (3 months course)
After every lesson, I'll check which part of my lesson is good / bad, and I'll modify it for a better lesson for the next time.
Because my English school's lesson motto is "We offer what students really need & they'll have a genuine command of English."
As an English teacher, I'll try to help them improve English skills!!
