Good morning and thank you very much for your visit to English Plus blog!
English Plus is a small school located in Tamachi, Tokyo.
We're providing fun, student-centered, practical English lessons.


Today, I'd like to write about one of our seven attempts to help students improve their English skills at our English school.
Our school, English Plus, is a small English school, but we're serious about helping our students improve their English skills, and we are trying to provide some supports and several approaches.
There are actually seven approaches we are trying to provide, and today let's check another one of them.
The second one today is about answering questions inside and outside lessons, and giving self-study advice.
In our adult's group lesson, each lesson is 90 minutes and max 4 students in a class.
Our lessons are all original so we don't follow textbooks in our lessons.
All of our lessons are based on our original curriculum so they are practical since they are based on our teaching experience, working experience, traveling abroad experience, and so on.
Since we don't follow textbooks, our students are not required to do lesson preview before each lesson.
Thus, our students usually ask a lot of questions about lesson points and related topics.
Generally, during lessons, we answer the questions, which our students ask us in a class room.
In addition, they have other questions when they do self-study.
In this case, they can ask us directly when we're open and when the staff is available.
Also, when students are not sure about how to do self-study, we can give advice after we hear their purpose of learning English, their life style, and so on.
Therefore, our advice for each student is different.
If they bring and show us their textbooks they own, we check each and give advice on them too.
We don't require our students to buy next textbooks; instead, we recommend the books they already have at home.
Always, questions about English from our students are welcome!

We're providing fun, student-centered, practical English lessons.


Today, I'd like to write about one of our seven attempts to help students improve their English skills at our English school.
Our school, English Plus, is a small English school, but we're serious about helping our students improve their English skills, and we are trying to provide some supports and several approaches.
There are actually seven approaches we are trying to provide, and today let's check one of them.
The first one today is about English Plus's original lessons.
Our lessons are original and they're not following textbooks.
All of our lessons are based on our original curriculum so they are practical since they are based on our teaching experience, working experience, traveling abroad experience, and so on.
This experience is not only by our teachers but also by our students and our staff members.
For instance, in our travel conversation lesson, students can learn how to ask for directions when traveling abroad and at the same time, they can learn how to give directions to foreign tourists in Japan, which is more practical because our students can learn both sides as tourists.
In our adult's group lesson, each lesson is 90 minutes.
During this 90-min lesson, our teachers try to keep for our students to practice speaking English a lot.
It's because we hope our students can acquire real English ability and speak English with confidence anytime.
We understand that in order to acquire real English skills, "learning is not enough but practicing."
Therefore, in our 90-min lessons, our students study some learning points and practice the points in order to acquire genuine English ability.
At English Plus, we are trying to make efforts to support our students to improve their English skills by providing more practical English lessons and self-study support.

English Plus is a small school located in Tamachi, Tokyo.
We're providing fun, student-centered, practical English lessons.


Today, I'd like to write about one of the features of English Plus' lesson.
English Plus is a small, friendly, fun, and also has a family atmosphere English school; thus, we can listen to our students' comments directly and support them by providing necessary service in order to help them improve their English skills.
That's the reason why when we know and realize their weakness, we can suggest some effective self-training methods for each of them.
We usually tell our students that "taking lessons regularly" is important, and also "doing self-study constantly" is also necessary to improve English skills.
To maximize the efficiency of lessons, at English Plus, we mainly provide 90-min group lessons, which consist of maximum 4 students in a class.
After the lessons, we give our students some homework and most of them try and submit it the next time they take lessons.
It's because we have decided our school motto "Every day English" and we encourage our students to do some English study in their free time.
In addition to our school system, there are various features of our lessons, and today I'd like to write one of them.
One of our lesson features is "Practical & Original curriculum and lesson."
All of our group lessons are based on our original curriculum, which means our students don't use or follow specific textbooks.
This means our students never do "repeat after me" or "memorize dialogues in a textbook" during our lessons.
Instead, in our conversation lessons, our students try to make dialogues by themselves.
For instance:
Student A: Ask B a question (e.g. What did you do last weekend?)
Student B: Answer A's question (e.g. I went shopping.)
Student A: Listen to B's answer and make a comment & ask another question related to the answer (e.g. I see. Where did you go shopping?)
Student B: Answer A's question and ask A a question (e.g. I went to Odaiba. How about yourself? What did you do last weekend?)
Student A&B's conversation continues.
This is just an example and in our lessons, we encourage our students to speak a lot during lessons.
In order for them to speak a lot and enjoy communication, we try to support our students to acquire basic English skills through the lessons and self-study support.
Basic English skills at English Plus mean they can make sentences freely and accurately.
To master basic English skills and communication skills, our lessons are carried out on our practical original curriculum.
Our original curriculum contains our instructors' teaching experience and some important points that we've learned through TESL curriculum.
The curriculum is separated by each level, from beginner to high intermediate, and our students can effectively learn important tips for acquiring basic English and communication skills.
In addition, this curriculum includes not only our instructors' teaching experience but also our students' and staff members' learning experience, so it is more practical.
After every lesson is done, our teachers check the lesson to see if the lesson was easy for our students to understand or if there is something we should change about it.
For better lessons, we update and improve our lessons every day.
We are going to improve how to teach English from now on too.

Today, I'd like to write about one of the features of English Plus.
English Plus is a small, friendly, fun, and also has a family atmosphere English school, which is the reason why we can listen to our students' comments directly and support them by providing necessary service in order to help them improve their English skills.
When we know and realize their weakness, we can suggest some effective self-training methods for each of them.
We usually tell our students that "taking lessons regularly" is important, and "doing self-study constantly" is also necessary to improve English skills.
At English Plus, we mainly provide 90-min group lessons, which consist of maximum 4 students in a class.
After the lessons, we usually give our students some homework and most of them try and submit it the next time they take lessons.
Since English Plus' slogan is "Every day English", most of our students try to study not only on a lesson day but also in their free time.
We feel that studying English has become daily routine for most of our students. (Great job!)
Actually, there are various features of our lessons and self-study support, and I'd like to write more about them.
One of our features is "practical original lesson and curriculum."
All of our group lessons are based on original curriculum, which means our students don't use specific textbooks or memorize dialogues in textbooks.
The reason we are making our original curriculum is for our students to acquire basic English skills and communicate well.
Basic English skills mean they can make sentences freely and accurately.
Also, since we don't have any specific textbooks to read, our students have to communicate directly with other classmates and instructors in English.
To master basic English skills and communication skills, our lessons are carried out on our practical original curriculum.
Our original curriculum contains our instructors' teaching experience and some important points that we've learned through TESL curriculum.
The curriculum is separated by each level, from beginner to high intermediate, and our students can effectively learn important tips for acquiring basic English and communication skills.

Today, I'd like to write about one of English Plus' unique points.
Our English school has some unique points that other schools can't imitate.
One of them is that our lessons are based on our original curriculum.
All of our lesson curriculum are practical because we include experience abroad of not only English instructors' and staff members' but also our students'.
So, let's take a lesson from "Travel English" for example...
You can learn "how to enjoy shopping" in the Travel English, but to enjoy shopping more, you can learn how to get a discount while shopping and so on in the lesson.

本日は“小さな英語学校English Plusのユニークポイント - 実用的なオリジナルカリキュラム”についてです。
