English Plus is a small school located in Tamachi, Tokyo.
We're providing fun, student-centered, practical English lessons.


Today, let's practice English from English Plus' lessons.
At English Plus, we encourage our students to try to speak English a lot especially during lessons.
Once in a while, they make some mistakes, but they really try hard and try to express what they want to say in their own words. (Great Job!)
Through the lessons at English Plus, I realized there are some mistakes our students often make, so today let's review not to make the same mistake again.
Now, let's find errors from our lessons during the fourth week of January in 2022 below.

1. I heard a story about Chinese young woman.
2. She is the shortest hair of the three.
3. I might need not pay extra fee.
4. If I am not feel well tomorrow, I stay at home.
5. He is most weakest of the three.

Let's improve English skills little by little!

Good morning and I thank you very much for visiting English Plus blog!


Today, I'd like to write about what we are doing for our students to help them improve their English skills at English Plus.
As English Plus is a small school, we can listen to our students' comments directly and support them by providing necessary service in order to help them improve their English skills.
When we know and realize their weakness, we can suggest some effective self-training methods for each of them.
Actually, in addition to taking lessons, doing self-study is important to help them to improve English skills.
So, we decided our slogan "Every day English" and started "Every day English program."
One of the programs is English diary, and most of our students keep a diary continuously.
We feel that it's become their daily routine! (Great work!)
At English Plus, we offer a wide variety of lessons, and one of them is "TOEIC test preparation course."
We recognize that in order to get a higher score, not only taking our lessons, but also doing self-study is essential.
It is true that "The longer time they spend for self-study, the higher their TOEIC score will be."
So, in order to support our TOEIC students more, we give them some extra assignments.
One of our latest assignments is "original new self-study sheet for the TOEIC test."
The reason we made this one is to keep enough time to study for the TOEIC and keep their motivation high.
In this new sheet, there are some directions of how to do training for the TOEIC test.
Also, there is a lot of space to fill in.
We understand that almost all of our students have very busy daily lives, but we hope they use this sheet in their daily lives and improve their English skills and TOEIC score.
I personally try this sheet myself and I know this is hard, but as long as we try and complete this sheet, it will surely help us improve English skills.
We can't do everything to improve TOEIC score, but try to encourage our TOEIC students to improve their English skills and TOEIC score at the same time.
English Plus is a very small school, but we do anything we can to support our students.

Today, let's learn some English phrases that can be used in business situations.
In our daily business situations, we are sometimes (or usually/always) busy at work.
We are too busy to finish work on time at times and we want more time.
In this case, today's English phrases might be useful and let's learn how to say "I want more time."
For example...
・Could you give me some more time?
・Could you give me one more day to finish this assignment?
・Would it be possible to extend the deadline on this?
・Is it possible to get some extra time to finish this report?
If you need more time at work, please try to use some!

本日は“ビジネスでも使える“もう少し時間が欲しい”と言いたい時に使える英語表現”です。

日常の仕事では、忙しいことが多々あるかと思います。

忙しすぎて、仕事が時間通りに終わらない場合や、時間制限のある仕事をしている場合、もっと時間が欲しい時があると思います。

今日は上司の方やクライアントの方に対しても使える“もう少し時間をいただけませんか？”の英語表現を学んでいきたいと思います。

例えば…

・Could you give me some more time?

・Could you give me one more day to finish this assignment?

・Would it be possible to extend the deadline on this?

・Is it possible to get some extra time to finish this report?

上記の表現で“もう少しお時間をいただけませんか？”というような意味になります。

必要に応じて使えるように、今から学んで口にだして練習しておきましょう！

Since our current campaign "order in English" is going to finish this Saturday, March 10th, we are preparing "point card at English Plus cafe" for customers.
We haven't decided the details yet, but we would like to make our point card unique.
So, we're currently thinking about some plans that our customers can use English more at our cafe and get extra points or something.

This May, I visited a local tax office and learned about the very basic knowledge of bookkeeping.

The last time I visited there, I applied for extra study, and they suggested I visit "Aoiro-shinkoku-kai", which is an organization helping with accounting.
So, yesterday, I went to the organization and studied how to do the bookkeeping on the computer.
I studied accounting a little bit since I visited the local tax office in May, but I had never done any accounting stuff on the PC, so it was a good practice!
From now on, I’m going to learn and practice doing the accounting little by little!!

本日は“英語学校設立へ向けての青色申告会においての帳簿記入の練習”です。

今年５月に、地元の税務署へ行き帳簿記入に関しての勉強会に参加してきました。

５月に地元の税務署を訪れた際、帳簿記入に関しての講座に申し込みをし、青色申告会で勉強することが決まっていました。

なので昨日、初めて青色申告会を訪れ、実際にコンピューターを使い、実際の帳簿作成の仕方を習うことができました。

前回、地元の税務署を訪れて以来、少しずつ簿記に関しては勉強していましたが、実務（PC）のほうはまったくでしたので、とても良い練習になりました。

英語学校設立準備段階の今、少しずつ簿記の実務も学んでいきたいと思います！

Today, I’d like to write about English trivia about baseball vocabulary.

Personally, when I was young, I played baseball a lot.
So, baseball is one of my favorite sports.
Even though Japanese professional baseball league was delayed to begin its season this year, it started successfully like Major league baseball.
As you know, baseball is from the U.S., so there are a lot of baseball jargons, some of which are the same as Japanese; however, others are totally different.
So, today I’d like to pick up “different” ones.
Here’s the list of some of different vocabulary:
・Pre-season game
・Regular season
・Post season (Japanese call it play off)
・Sweep
・Extra inning
・Doubles
・Triples
・Game ending home run
・Base loaded
・Hit by pitch (Japanese call it dead ball)
There are some others, so if you are interested in them, please look them up!

個人的に小さい頃、友達と集まっては野球をしていたこともあり、野球は好きなスポーツの１つです。

今年、日本のプロ野球の開幕は遅くなってしまいましたが、メジャーリーグ同様に無事に開幕しました。

ご存知だと思いますが、野球はアメリカから来たスポーツで、野球用語にはたくさんの英語が使われています。

その中のいくつかの野球英語は日本語と同じか、似ているものがありますが、まったく違うものもあります。

今日は日本語とは少し違う野球に関する英語を取り上げてみたいと思います。

例えば・・・

・Pre-season game（オープン戦）
・Regular season（レギュラーシーズン）
・Post season（プレーオフ）
・Sweep（同一カード３連勝）
・Extra innings（延長）
・Doubles（２塁打）
・Triples（３塁打）
・Game ending home run（サヨナラホームラン）
