BBC Climate change: New Zealand's plan to tax cow and sheep burps 9 Jun 2022 By Peter Hoskins
「New Zealand has unveiled a plan to tax sheep and cattle burps in a bid to tackle one of the country's biggest sources of greenhouse gases.
It would make it the first nation to charge farmers for the methane emissions from the animals they keep.
New Zealand is home to just over five million people, along with around 10 million cattle and 26 million sheep.」
「Under the proposal farmers will have to pay for their gas emissions from 2025.
The plan also includes incentives for farmers who reduce emissions through feed additives, while planting trees on farms could be used to offset emissions.」
BBC Farmers in Republic of Ireland to be asked to cut emissions by 25% 29 Jul 2022
「Farmers in the Republic of Ireland are to be asked to cut their greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030.
The compromise reduction target for the agriculture sector comes after negotiations between the three party leaders in the governing coalition.
The Irish government's climate action plan had pledged carbon emission reduction cuts of between 22% and 30%.」

BBC Climate change: UK sea level rise speeding up - Met Office 22 Jul 2022 By Georgina Rannard
「Sea levels are rising much faster than a century ago, reveals the Met Office's annual look at the UK's climate and weather.
The State of the Climate report also says that higher temperatures are the new normal for Britain.
Conservationists warn that spring is coming earlier and that plant and animal life is not evolving quickly enough to adapt to climate change.」
「Sea levels have risen by around 16.5cm (6.5 ins) since 1900, but the Met Office says the rate of rise is increasing. They are now rising by 3-5.2mm a year, which is more than double the rate of increase in the early part of last century.」
年4mmずつ上昇―となると、10年あれば4cmと? …20年あったら島嶼国家は相当…だわなあ。
そして40度の熱波は今後、普通のこととなるだろう―と。
BBC UK's 40C heatwave 'basically impossible' without climate change 29 Jul 2022 By Georgina Rannard
「The record temperatures in the UK last week would have been "almost impossible" without human-induced climate change, leading scientists have concluded.
The UK recorded temperatures above 40C for the first time on 19 July.」
季節感も狂ってきて―そういえば今年、私は例年にも増して苗がうまくいかなかったなあ…。
