TOKYO, Japan--(UP)--Future of the world rests on American ability to develop more and better atomic bombs, the mayor of atombombed Hiroshima said Saturday after hearing of the reported Pussian atomic explosion.
"If this report is true, it means that our future security and that of all peace-loving citizens in the world are even more squarely in the lap of the United States," Mayor Shinzo Hamai, of Hiroshima, said.
Mayor Hamai heard Andrei Vishinsky's assurance in the United Nations that Russia has no intention of attacking any nation, but ue said " We believe the Russian development heralds a new dawn in a world struggle to maintain peace, and this new stage must be marked by ever-increasing American efofrts to counter every move made by theRussians."
Hamai said the news of the Russian explonion "precisely bears out the fears and popes that motivated more than 100,000 Hiroshima citezens to sign a petition to President Truman asking a firm United States policy to assure no more Hiroshima anywhere.
