This early morning in Japan, there was the final match of FIFA Women's World Cup 2011 between the U.S. and Japan in Germany.
I probably don't have to mention the result, but amazingly, Japan won!!
So today, let's learn some English expressions to praise someone.
For example...
"Congratulations!"
"Congrats!"
"Kudos!"
"You should be proud of yourselves!"
"You made it happen!"
"You've outdone yourselves!"
"You're the best!"
These are just some, and there are a lot of other phrases to praise someone, such as simply "Great" or "Fantastic."
Anyway, Congratus Nadeshiko Japan!!

本日は“なでしこJAPANの快挙を記念して"褒め称える"ひとこと英語”です。

今朝早く、ドイツで開催されているFIFA Women's World Cup 2011の決勝戦、アメリカ対日本の試合がありました。

結果は皆様ご存知かとは思いますが、嬉しいことに日本が勝ちました！！

そこで今日は“褒め称えるひとこと英語”を学んでいきたいと思います。

例えば“おめでとう！”であれば・・・

"Congratulations!"

"Congrats!"

"Kudos!"

また“よくやった！”という表現であれば・・・

"You should be proud of yourselves!"

"You made it happen!"

"You've outdone yourselves!"

"You're the best!"

これらは“褒め称える”表現は他に、単純な表現として"Great"や"Fantastic"も使うことができますので使える場面で使ってみましょう！

Even though the grammar is technically not correct, what it means is great!

今日のポジティブな英語ひとことメッセージは、国際的に有名な企業“Adidas”のスローガンからです。
（ご存知かとは思いますが、Adidasはドイツのスポーツ用品メーカーです）



“Impossible is Nothing.”



訳は単純ですが“不可能はない”と言った感じです。

（この“Impossible is nothing”の文法は厳密には“Nothing is impossible”が正解だと思いますが、そこはAdidasが強調のためか何かを意図してスローガンをつけたのだと思います）

今日も１日、楽しくいきましょう！

Today, I'm going to introduce a good movie for beginners to learn English.

The movie I'm going to introduce today is entitled "The Never Ending Story", which is a 1984 German and American epic fantasy film.
For me, this movie was the most interesting movie when I was a kid because I still clearly remember that the story was easy to understand and also the characters were very unique.
That's why I clearly remember watching this movie.
From an English learner's point of view, this movie is great especially for beginners.
The English used in the movie is relatively clear and the grammar used in the movie is easy.
So, it's a good movie for beginners to learn English!

今日おすすめの映画は“The Never Ending Story（ネバーエンディングストーリー）”です。

The Never Ending Storyは１９８４年、ドイツ・アメリカで制作・公開されたファンタジー映画です。

自分にとってこの映画は子供の頃に見た映画の中でも、“ストーリーのわかりやすさ”や“登場人物のユニークさ”で一番印象的な作品だったことを覚えています。

英語学習者の視点からこの映画を見ますと、英語学習の入門には最適な作品だと思います。

理由としましては、“英語の発音はクリア”で“使われている文法も簡単”な点です。

これらの点に加え、“ストーリーのわかりやすさ”や“キャラクターのユニークさ”など総合的に考えますと、映画で英語学習の入門には最適だと言えます。

今週末、英語学習を兼ね、家でリラックスしながら見てはいかがでしょうか？

I’d like to write about food in Canada today.

When you imagine Canadian food, what one Canadian food do you think of?
Salmon?
Maple syrup?
Alberta beef?
Since Canada is a country consisting of a lot of immigrants, there are a lot of styles of food, such as Greek, Italian, Indian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Lebanese, Germany, Polish and so on.,
Though there are a lot of varieties of food in Canada, as far as I know, there are not so many kinds of Canadian food.
However, if I name one, that is “Poutine.”
Poutine is composed of French fries with gravy source and cheese.
I have never seen one in Japan, so if you have a chance to try it in Canada, you should!!

“カナダの食べ物”と聞いた時、どの食べ物を思い浮かべますか？

サーモン？

メープルシロップ？

アルバータビーフ？

ご存知の通り、カナダは移民の国で本当にたくさんの種類の食べ物（ギリシャ、イタリア、インド、中国、韓国、日本、レバノン、ドイツ、ポーランドなど多数）があります。

たくさんの種類の食べ物をいろいろと食べることができるのが、カナダという国ですが、カナダという国の食べ物は（自分の知っている限り）あまり多くありませんが、
１つカナダ独特の食べ物を挙げるとすれば、”Poutine（プーティン）”でしょうか。

プーティンは、フライドポテトの上にグレイビーソース（肉のソース）とチーズをかけたものです。

日本では、（自分は）まだ見たことがありませんので、もしカナダでチャンスがあればトライしてみてください！！

本日は“すぐに使える英語（日本語と英語の発音が違う国 編）”です。

前回の“すぐに使える英語（発音を間違えやすい世界の都市 編）”はこちら：

英語には“日本語読み”で通じる都市名があるように、国名も多数あります。

例えば・・・

ブラジル - Brazil（発音：ブラジル）
フランス - France（発音：フランス）

ただし、この下の国旗の国は少し発音が違います。


スイス - Switzerland（発音：スイッツァランド）

また、スイスのほかに・・・

ベルギー - Belgium（発音：ベルジャン）
オランダ - Netherlands（発音：ネザーランズ）
ドイツ - Germany（発音：ジャーマニー）
ヨルダン - Jordan（発音：ジョーダン）

英語で旅行の話や、自分の経験を話す時、また英文のE-mailの中で使う時など、国名や都市名には少し注意を払いながら、たくさん使って慣れましょう！！

それでは今日の英語での一言："Practice again and again!!"

Hi, how did you enjoy your weekend?
It was too short to go to abroad this weekend, eh?
However, you may have a plan to go abroad next month since there are a couple of national holidays.
Why I brought up this topic is there are countries that are pronunced differently in Japanese and English.
These countries below are pronunced almost in the same way.
"Brazil, France"
However, these countries are pronunced differently, such as...
"Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Jordan"
So, for Japanese, we have to keep in mind that there are countries whose pronunciation is different.
When we talk about our travel experience, or write E-mail and refer to some countries, we should pay attention to them!
Nontheless, "Practice makes perfect", so "Practice again and again!!"
