The UN-backed trial of a former Khmer Rouge leader has begun.
Kaing Guek Eav, known as Duch, was commander of the Tuol Sleng "S-21" interrogation centre. He was personally responsible for overseeing the systematic torture of more than 15,000 prisoners. Japan is the main contributor for the joint tribunal.
