Yap Environment Week-June.1-5,2009-①

　
6月1日は「Yap Tree Planting Day」。
6月5日は「World Environment Day」。

そこで、今年6月1週目を「Yap Environment Week」、
EPA（環境保護局）、DAF（農業局）、地元NGOと企画しました。

6月1日は「Yap Tree Planting Day」DAF主催で毎年行われる植林活動です。
　
今年は公式、非公式のサイト計3か所で同時に植林が行われました。公式サイトでは州知事、副知事も参加し、州政府職員、ボランティアの学生も含めて50人ほど集まり、ノニ、トベラなどの苗木が計460本が植えられました。


EPAではEnvironment week中に『Radio Quiz show』を企画。
（コスラエのWorld Water Dayの『Q&A　SHOW』に習ってみました。）

1日1問、環境に関するクイズをラジオで出し、正解のわかったリスナーはラジオ局に電話で答える。
最初の正解者にエコグッズ賞品を進呈。（現在進行中！）

なるだけ多くの人が答えられるように、クイズのヒントになるインフォメーション(以下にあるQuestionに対するLong Answer)を数日前からラジオスポットで流しました。またQuestionはすべてヤップカレンダー（地元NGO 作製）の中から考え、身近なことにしました。
それが効したのか月曜日はQuestionからAnswerまであっという間、3人目で正解が出ました。
ヤップは多くの人がラジオを聞いているので、これを機会に自然環境にもっともっと興味を持ってもらえることを期待しています。

A1 -Green Sea Turtle (ヤップ語：Wel)
　　-Yes
*Long Answer: The green tutle,wel, is the most common sea turtle in Yap State. There are 3 other kinds of turtles that have been found in the sae waters of Yap: the hawksbil turtle,daraw; the leatherback turtle, and the pacific ridley turtle. The last two kinds of turtles are rare.

A2 -so the symbiotic algae can live and grow.
*Long　Answer: Corals are animals that have algae plants living with them. The coral provides a place for the algae to live and the algae plants make food for the coral. Thus they help each other. This is called "symbiosis".
