後期日程英作文のコツ

　後期日程で和文英訳が課される大学を受験する人は、次の点に注意しよう。
（１）与えられた日本語の意味内容の理解
（２）和文和訳（＝難解な日本語を易しい日本語に置き換える）
（３）英文の全体的な構成をイメージする
（４）自分の最も得意な表現を用いる
（５）日本語が one sentence でも英語で one sentence で表す必要はない

例題１（京都大学２００８年度前期）
　子供の頃に、本を読んで感動したり、わくわくしたりした思い出は、一生消えることのないほど強烈なものである。子供は未知の世界に対して新鮮な好奇心を持ち、想像力が豊かであるため、本の世界の中で生きることができるのだ。成長してさまざまな試練に出会ったときに、そのような経験が思わぬ力を発揮する場合がある。

試訳
   As a child, you must have gotten moved and excited while reading a book. Such an experience in reading is so impressive that you won't forget it throughout your life. Always curious about what they don't know and full of imagination, children can live in the world described in the story. This experience sometimes helps a lot more than is expected when you grow up to face different problems.

例題２（京都大学２００８年度前期）
　コンクリートの建物に囲まれ、機能第一主義の無機質な都会で生活していると、鳥や虫の鳴き声に耳を澄ませたり、名も知らぬような草木に目をやったりしながら、季節の微妙な移り変わりを実感するようなことがめっきり少なくなってきたように思う。もっと心に余裕を持ち、一回きりのかけがえのない人生を潤いのあるものにしたいと考えて、田舎に移住することを決断する人が近年増えてきているのも無理からぬことである。

試訳
   Living in the soulless city where there are lots of concrete buildings and convenience is regarded as what is most important, you might feel that you can hardly detect the subtle seasonal changes by listening to birds and insects chirp and looking at plants you don't know of. It is quite natural that, wanting to get more relaxed and make their one-time life more enjoyable, more and more people are choosing to live in the countryside.
