先日、カルバヨグの友人・Lさんからメールが来ました。
港へと続くあの密集した街が大火で焼失したそうです。
１００世帯以上が、焼け出され、２カ所の避難所に収容されたとのこと。火災の原因についても、おかしな噂が飛び交っているようです。
以下、彼女のメールの一部を転載します。

By the way, yesterday (Sunday) November 14, 2010, at around 12:30 p.m. a big fire razed more than 100 houses at Brgy. Aguit-itan. Among the victims were my schoolmates (4) and my former officemate (1). The victims are now temporarily accommodated at the Joggers Basketball Court (beside CKC) and at the Island Towns Passenger Terminal (across Breadmix). Most of the victims were left with nothing except the clothes they wore because they were mostly busy watching the live telecast on television of the boxing bout between the great Filipino boxer, Manny Pacquiao and Margarito of Mexico.
There are talks tho’ that the fire might have been set purposely because the area that was razed down is the site for the proposed road widening (going to the pier) project and for the tenement that will be constructed soon. I hope this is not true.
