The Socceroos are through to the second round of the World Cup
in Germany.
Socceroo Harry Kewell snaffled a loose ball in the penalty box
to even the score in Stuttgart at the 79-minute mark of their
crucial match in Stuttgart.
The draw will pit Australia against Italy on Tuesday morning
(Australian time).
Croatia drew ahead in at the 56-minute mark after taking an early
lead, then Australia levelled the score again in the second half.
The teams were level at 1-1 at halftime in their World Cup Group
F match in Stuttgart today.
Darijo Srna caught the Socceroos napping with a superbly taken
free kick in the third minute then Craig Moore equalised with
a penalty after 38 minutes.
Croatia, who need to win to make the second round, were awarded
a free kick when Australia captain Mark Viduka tripped Niko
Kovac just outside the box.
Srna made them pay by curling the ball over the wall past Australia
goalkeeper Zeljko Kalac to score his country's first goal of the tournament.
Australian, who can qualify with a draw as long as Japan do not
beat Brazil by three goals in the other Group F match, appealed
for a penalty when defender Josip Simunic brought down Viduka but
English referee Graham Poll ruled there was no foul.
Australians quickly regained their composure after the early goal
and dominated the rest of the half.
They were rewarded when Moore scored after Stepjan Tomas
handled the ball in the area.
