ひょんなことから、F高等学校の校歌を英訳することになった。
英訳に限らず翻訳の基本は、A言語の意味をできるだけ忠実にB言語で表現することにある。今回は譜面にも忠実に取り組んだ。（つまり、英訳版であっても例の節回しで歌えます、ということだ。）この作業はやり始めると実に楽しく、震災後の落ち込んでいた気持ちを和ませる効果が絶大であった。というわけで、下にF高等学校の英訳を挙げることにする。実際に声に出して歌ってみよう：

Doth thy heart not leap up to see
The clouds of cherry blossoms full in bloom?
In the centre of Osaki,
Amidst the golden waves of rice,
There stands our Alma Mater,
Full of hope and pride.
Those are amongst the things
Are we proud of.
Come and behold our Alma Mater.

Didst thou see the Kurikoma yonder,
Fathering harsh northerly winds?
See the Funagata down hither,
Towering high above the clouds?
See the way they soar up, lofty,
Shining glorious.
