As part of the NATO treaty the U.S. maintains a series of facilities on the island. We stayed at Sondersrtom Fjord, (base since closed) a barren piece of coastal land down stream from a massive glacier. Summer temperatures can be warm and its nearly always light outside. Just inland from the base lies the vast Ice Cap of lore and legend.

Indeed the region’s geopolitical significance has actually grown given pack ice melts, and the vast Arctic, including Greenland, forms a growing focus of Russian and Chinese strategic and economic interests. Speaking in Finland in May, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo asserted, the region’s “centerpiece,” the Arctic Ocean, “is rapidly taking on new strategic significance.”

The ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has placed more the 200 million cameras throughout China to closely surveil and track the populace.

During the ongoing mass demonstrations in Hong Kong, protesters with electric saws reportedly cut down Chinese government “smart lampposts” out of concern that the posts could identify them to mainland Communist authorities.

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam announced on Sept. 4 that the government would withdraw an extradition bill which sparked massive pro-democracy protests which have continued daily for three months.
香港行政府長官のキャリー・ラムは９月４日、３ヶ月にわたって毎日続いてきた民主主義信奉者による強力な抵抗を受けてきた逃亡犯引渡し法を引っ込めた。

However, the leader’s acquiescence to one of protest organizers’ demands is “too little, too late,” and the demonstrations will continue in what leaders called a “revolution of the free world.”

Hong Kong National Party founder Andy Chan Ho-tin, who was released after being arrested at the airport on Aug.31 while on his way to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Japan, called on the international community to “join the revolution” which he said must once and for all put an “end to communism.”

Chan said in a statement: “ I am now urging everyone of you to join the revolution. We need you. … To make things clear, it is not just the revolution of Hong Kong people but the revolution of the free world, the revolution of our time. We are now in the 21st century, the year of 2019. It is ridiculous to me that there is still such a massive communist country in the world. What was not finished by our predecessors now falls upon our shoulders. It is time for us to end communism. It is time for all of us to join the revolution. When dictatorship is a fact, revolution becomes a duty.”

Chan met with leaders of the American Conservative Union (ACU) and the Japan Conservative Union this week in a “Pop-Up CPAC” with Chan. He released the statement he had planned to give at the Japan conference over the weekend.

1. Firing Bullets at Protestors!

In the 6.12 suppression, the police decided to fire RUBBER BULLETS at Hongkongers, which casued heavy casualties and was the FIRST instance since the handover of Hong Kong. Even REPORTERS were hit. At least 81 were injured on Wednesday night. The uncertain suspension of passing the law was made possible only by the blood shed by Hongkong protestors.
6月12日の鎮圧活動において、警察は多大なる死傷者の原因となり、香港返還後最初の実例となる、ゴム弾を香港人に向けて発泡することを決断した。取材のレポーターにさえ当たった。少なくとも、81人が水曜日の夜に怪我をした。不確かな法律は香港の抗議者の流す血のみによって作られた。

The future of Hong Kong now hinges on the draconian Extradition Law. The business and religious sectors and various others have expressed deep concerns. Soon after the 6.12 suppression, leaders of the six major religions in Hong Kong signed a petition to raise concerns, while some members in the Pro-Establishment camp have urged the government to make concessions. It's no longer about whether you are "blue ribbon" or "yellow ribbon"; it's a matter of conscience; it's a battle with the devil.
