I read the interest article about Hong Kong bookstore cafe today.
The article introduces Diane Chow , female business development professional .
She opened a bookstore cafe called “ the Fu Court “ with three friends in October 2020.
The Fu Court is dedicated space where people , who share their enthusiasm for BL, can gather and connect.
BL , Boys' love, is novel or comic about male homosexuality.
The Fu Court offers various manga and BL merchandise, and contains a space where people can sit to read or watch these tings.
And the Fu Court often organizes community-building events.
For these people , the Fu Court is more than just a place to read BL anime and hang out. It is also a place of self-discovery, free expression.
Gay and lesbian people have been increasingly accepted in Hong Kong.
However, the Chinese government has been cracking down on the portrayal of same-sex relationships .
They have been critical of BL, claiming it has been disrupting public morals.
Nevertheless, Diane Chow and three friends have maintained their original zeal .
They produced the original BL drama, that became a success.
I have no interest in BL itself.
But I’m interested in their challenge.
I wonder what kind of impact they will have on Hong Kong society and the Chinese government.
