Portable Spectrum Analyzer with a tracking generator Arinst SSA-TG R2(TG 35MHz-6.2GHz model)/Review

I'd like to do review on this portable spectrum anlyzer and the tracking generator Arinst SSA-TG R2 which I just received!!

(SSG 100.000000MHz sine wave/-20dBm measurement)I set also the marker to 100MHz.

I' ve already tried to measure SSG 100MHz,sine wave/-20dBm,and make it sure the ferquency and RF level measurement is okay without doing the offsets.

Windows-Based software"Arinst SSA-UNV".(on Win10 Pro 64bit)

Amazon Fire OS View(Bluetooth works fine!!)

Also I tested the android application by Amazon Fire.No problem.Bluetooth is stable,easily I can set up.If you set bluetooth "ARINST_SSA_UNV_your number"and activate application"Arinst".Then click on the mark of bluetooth.The GUI has semmigly almost same function as Windows-Based software's of Arinst SSA-UNV.

(SWR measurement)

I measured SWR with the directional coupler ZFDC-20-5.The way to calibrate is same as other equipments.

Open,Short and 50ohm load be done,and again connect 50ohm load,you can see the set up view for the measurement SWR below.

PC-Based software Arinst SSA-UNV is quite stable.When you connect to USB first,Now you can upgarade the device firmware to ver 1.05.

We can measure the return loss of the antenna,so not necessarily needed SWR measurement kit,but it is convenient,usually It is the option for other maker's spectrum analyzer and tracking generator.(so-called advanced measurement kit)/SSA-TG R2 can measure also S21 and S11 of course,not worry.

If you quit the software SSA-UNV,and disconnet the USB cable,the LCD display comes back again.(I mean,if you connect USB and activate SSA-UNV,the LCD display on SSA-TG R2 has been turned off spontaneously)Now SSA-UNV's version is ver.1.0.1.

SWR for 2.4GHz ANT(on the way,not reached the conclusion,I might need shorter cables)

Calibration for 2.4GHz ANT is a bit sensitive,compared to 144MHz ANT like that.WiFi ANT itself sometimes been not grounded.So the evaluation is difficult at the moment.

50ohm load

10dB WiFi Antenna with 4m feed line(If I move the feed line,SWR is easily changed.lol )

I have read the article of RF world about bluetooth's internal antenna before.I was surprised the impednace of it is far from 50ohm,but usually bluetooth antenna which is almost same as WiFi antenna(actually I can't distinguish them,supposed same.lol)works well.This result SWR range like below,it would evaluate this WiFi antenna is no problem.I might test again with the shorter cables.

(S21 Measurement)

This LCD is a touch-panel LCD,so you can change the set-up by touching on that!!

 (Inner Battery) Really Upsides!!

SSA-TG R2 has Lithium-ion battery in it,and also has LCD disply,so we can use it outside your laboratory!!

 (Signal Generator)

You can use signal generator independently.(-15dBm to -25dBm)

 (We can measure above 4500MHz? and also signal generator can work well?)

Yes,it was my concerned.lol

When I measure with LCD display,the measured level is decreased,but it doesn't mattter.

I might be able to detect 5.8GHz WiFi signals with WiFi antenna.

Signal Generator 5.8GHz/-15dBm was measured.

Also I identified I can use RF level offsets.It means,when we use RF converter for RF measurement of HF band/1MHZ-30MHz,we can do offsets for compensating the conversion loss)

 

The RF amplifier IC like ADF4351 can only output from 35MHz-4400MHz.But SSA-TG R2's signal generator  and tracking generator can output like above frequency beyond 4.4GHz up to around 6200MHz!! If you hope to measure 5.8GHz WiFi etc,it is one of the first choice to purchase,I suppose.

About the mesurement of the frequency responce under 35MHz

I am considering how I do measure my 7MHz BPF with SSA-TG R2.

I am getting the mixer board for the purpose of down-converting,and I plan to make LPF like 10MHz,then I use the external local from SSG.

If you hope the mixer board,I only provide this mixer board itself.Plz contact to me!!

I had already reported before that I couldn't set the amplitude offset as minus,like -125MHz.I am sorry too late to confirm the newer PC-Based software "Arinst SSA-UNV as the versin 1.0.2,and also SSA-TG R2's firmware version 1.0.7.

Now we can set the offset,both the frequency(even minus value) and amplitude!!

For instance,when we use the up-converter,the local oscillator's ferequency of which is 125MHz,we can measure sine wave 10MHz,-10dBm.

Plz look at the below pictures.

We can set the offset for the actual frequency(set the local oscillator's ferequency as -125MHz in this case)

SSG sine wave 10MHz(more than 1x10E9),-10dBm/SSA SSA-TG and Up-converter(my shop's option)

We can set the offset for the conversion loss -10dB.

(I confirmed above,with Windows Home 64bit/Beelink S2/Windws Version 1803)

(Caution)If you don't install JAVA runtime,plz install it in advance.
