前方後円墳は、なぜ「前方で後円」なのか？
事実の積み重ねは、考古学ではありません。事実を有機的に編み上げ、その中からロジカルな理論を組み立てる。それが考古学です。あとは推論を立て、仮説を立て、その仮説に従い、体系を組み立てていきます。日本の前方後円墳を例にあげ、考古学が何であるかを考えてみます。
