DRコンゴ東部：炭疽菌流行

　DRコンゴ東部はここ暫く紛争地帯であったが、面倒なことに炭疽菌なんてものが流行している。

「An anthrax outbreak is compounding the worsening security situation in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), driving up humanitarian needs and further limiting access to basic services.」

　重度でなければ―手遅れでなければ抗生物質だとかペニシリンだとかで治療が可能で、ということは対処が―適切な物資が十分あれば―可能なわけだ。幸い、人→人の感染はないとのことで、被害はまあまあ限定的であるにせよ、面倒なのは面倒。

　何しろ避難民は1月以来の追加分だけでも66万人以上とか。そりゃあこの規模なら援助物資なんてめったに間に合うもんではないだろう。

「Since January 2025 alone, over 660,000 people have been forced to flee the Goma region after Government forces lost control of the key city along with Bukavu to the south.」

　くわえてmpoxの流行も見られるという。

「The scale of the humanitarian needs in the country has reached a tipping point, according to IOM, with outbreaks of mpox and anthrax underway in the east.」

　家畜経由でうつるもんでもあり、ということは家畜も減る。感染した家畜は処分の必要があり―つまり食料はさらに減る。

「Since 22 March, following the deaths of dozens of buffalo and hippopotamuses in Virunga National Park from anthrax poisoning, 16 suspected human cases of anthrax have been reported, including one confirmed case. One person has died so far.」

　炭疽病の流行―とはいえ、確証は1例のみ。疑惑例ふくめ計16例。これで収まってくれれば―しかし動物たちに微妙に潜伏しているようで、となるといつどこで人間側に突発するか。

　抑えられるに越したことはないがなあ。
