夫が毎日長男に英語を教えている。
けっこうマジメタイプの夫はなかなかいい先生だと思うけど、きっちり教えようとしてるので、もうちょっと面白くやってもいいんじゃない？と私が横から口を挟む。
「面白くないとイヤになっちゃうじゃん」
「勉強ってのは面白いばかりじゃないよ。苦しい時だってあるんだ」
「子供は楽しくないと勉強したくないよ。しんどくてもがんばろうってなれるのは、もっと大きくなって何か目標ができてからじゃない？」
「子供のうちから、しんどい勉強もやらなきゃならない時はあるって知らないと！」
「そうかなあ？？？学ぶことって本来は楽しいものだよ。その楽しさを伝えるのが教師の仕事だよー。」
「そんなことはない。生徒が教師を通して自ら学ぶものだ。勉強はいつも楽しいわけじゃないんだよ。努力も忍耐も必要なんだ。それを小さいうちから知っておかなかったから、君は高校生になって学校の勉強がキツくなった時にギブアップしちゃったんでしょ？」

そう言われると反論できませんが、、、、、
けれど、まだ自分がどこに向かうのかわからなかった15の頃に、
知識を広げることは自分の世界が広がって行く素晴らしいことだと、向かう先はわからなくても学ぶことに意味があるよと、
導いてくれる大人がいればよかったのにと思う。
だから、やっぱり
「学ぶことは絶対に楽しい！楽しいと思わせてあげるのが大人の責任！」
と言う私と、
「知識を得るのは難しい。子供のうちからそれを知るべき」と主張する夫と、
この件では意見が分かれている。
さて、息子達が成長した時に、彼らはどう考えるだろう。
My husband has been teaching our oldest son English everyday.
I think he is an earnest teacher, but sometimes gets too serious.
‘Why don't you teach in a some kind of fun way?’
I once asked him.
‘He might get bored if studying is not interesting.’
‘Learning something is not always fun. It is hard to study.’
‘It should be fun for little kids. You might be able to be a hard worker when you have motivation when you get older. ’
‘Kids have to know there's something to do even if it's not interesting.’
‘I don't think so. Leaning something is fun! It is the teacher's job to let kids know it. ’
‘That's not true. Students have to get something through teachers. Getting knowledge is not easy. You need to have effort and patience. You didn't learn that when you were little kid that's why you gave up studying when you went to high school, right? 'Cause it got hard.’
...... Well, sure, I almost dropped out school.
But let me tell you.
I did't see my future vision when I was 15 which made me anxious.
I wish I had grownups around who told me that having knowledge could expand your world and it is worthwhile to learn even if you don't know what you'll do with your knowledge.
SO, I still insist that ;
‘Learning IS fun! It is an adult's responsibility to let children know that. ’
My husband still says;
‘Getting knowledge is hard. Kids have to know it.’
We don't agree about this.
I wonder what our sons will think about it when they get older.
