昨日、平成20年12月23日、天長節（「天皇誕生日」とも言う）の
一般参賀に伺いました。午前10時に有楽町駅で同志と待ち合わせ。
日比谷公園横のお堀端で後を振り返り、旧GHQ本部（第一生命ビル）
を皆で一睨み。
皇居外苑で、ボーイスカウトの子供達から日の丸の小旗をもらい、
而して、金属探知器の検査を受け、次に、婦人警官さんからは入念な（笑）
ボディーチェック。手荷物はお預かりになるので皇居参賀の際には、
私はセカンドバックしか持って行きませんが、同志の中には「お預かり攻撃」
を受けた方もちらほら。
検問を通過した後は、数千の列に順々に連なり、
皇居正門（微動だにしない衛士が見事です！）から二重橋を渡り、
陛下がお出ましになる新宮殿前広場に。結構早目に広場についたので正面の
よい場所を確保。ところが、隣には（福建省訛りの）恐らく支那人と思しき
6-7人の一団が。
不穏な動きがあればその場で取り押さえるつもりでフォーメーションを
検討していたら、制服警官3名と（誰がどう見ても）私服警官としか見えない
人員が4名がそれらの一団を包囲してしまい。KABUとその仲間は「失業」。
とかとか、それから待つこと約20分。前夜の雨から引き続きすっきりしない
空模様だったのが（誇張ではなく）みるみる青空に変わって行く。
その時、「天皇陛下万歳」の声とともに、
天皇・皇后両陛下、皇太子・皇太子妃両殿下、秋篠宮・秋篠宮妃両殿下がお出ましに。
何度も、そして、随所で繰り返される「天皇陛下万歳」の声と打ち振られる
日の丸の小旗の嵐。それだけでも、新百合から早起きして皇居にきて良かった。
そうつくづく思いました。而して、天皇陛下のお言葉。
不況と国民の生活を憂慮されておられるお言葉。
正直、そのお言葉を聞いて「じーん」ときた。
お出ましから退場まで僅か10数分の出来事でしたが心が洗われる思い。
そして、皇居上空はいよいよ快晴。本当に雲一つない晴天に朗らかな太陽の光。
流石、天照大神の皇孫統べる豊芦原瑞穂之国だ、日本は。とそう思わずには
いられない。
と、坂下門から桔梗門を経て皇居を後にする一行。その後、内堀通りを隔てた
パレスホテルへ。而して、ホテルのレストランで旧交を温め、かつ、
平成20年12月23日の一般参賀の感動を各自語り合ったことは言うまでもありません。

●Emperor greets public as he celebrates his 75th birthday
Emperor Akihito waved to a crowd of well-wishers on his 75th birthday Tuesday, assuring the nation that his health is improving after a series of illnesses.
The Emperor, who has undergone surgery and treatment for cancer, has recently cut back his official duties. He has also been trying to recover from an irregular pulse and bleeding from his stomach ― symptoms Imperial doctors have attributed to "mental stress."
"Lately, I worried you as my health declined, but I believe I would recover gradually," the Emperor said, waving from the glassed-in balcony of the palace's main building during his first appearance in the morning. "I hope you have good health in the new year."
He also expressed concern for those affected by the economic downturn.
"I'm concerned that many people are facing difficulties and having a hard time at the end of the year," the Emperor said.
He appeared Tuesday with Empress Michiko, Crown Prince Naruhito and his wife, Crown Princess Masako, as well as Prince Akishino and his wife, Princess Kiko.
He made three such appearances throughout the day. At its peak, the crowd was estimated at about 10,000 people. Those in attendance waved flags and yelled, "Long live the Emperor."
In the afternoon, the Emperor received congratulatory messages from Prime Minister Taro Aso and representatives from legislative, administrative and judicial chiefs.
A party was scheduled with other Imperial family members and lawmakers.
Because the Emperor still had symptoms of a cold, some traditional events were canceled or curtailed this year. As part of such changes, ambassadors from foreign countries were asked to send messages to the Emperor instead of seeing him in person.
Imperial Household Agency chief Shingo Haketa said earlier this month that uncertainties about who will eventual sit on the throne of the world's oldest hereditary monarchy may be a cause of the Emperor's stress.
