1）个人陈述如何选择主题？

纵然目前有很多学校在美国本科申请过程中选择让申请人回答有关问题来替代传统印象中可以让申请人自由发挥的个人陈述，但是传统的个人陈述在美国研究生申请中仍是主流。不过，无论是回答问题还是自由发挥，我们需要非常地明确一点：你的主题一定是为什么你应该被研究生院录取。

纵然个人陈述的基本宗旨是诚实反映个人情况，但是申请需要的个人陈述不是调查问卷，对于申请人来说，这是展示自己优势和让自己从众多申请人中脱颖而出的机会。所以不管我们从我们的个人生活还是从研究经历入手，主题永远只有一个：你应该录取我。

当然，个人陈述仍是展现个性的机会，如果想在主题之下找到容易切入的主题，可以将个人兴趣、研究经历以及工作经验等分别列一个表格。首先查找这几个表格中重复的部分，再与申请学校的申请项目要求比较，符合要求的部分就是最容易切入的点，从而也就找出了我们个人陈述可以发挥的主题。

2）在写个人陈述的过程中，我应该使用什么样的语气呢？

The biggest problem for developed countries in terms of globalization is that its job opportunities are transferred from local workers to workers in countries where human labor costs less. According to Kletzer, import-related jobs constitute a majority of the job losses due to globalization in the United States. Current research also shows that high import-competing industries accounted for about 40 percent of manufacturing job losses from 1979 to 2001; and according to Carr and Chen, the reshaping of the overseas production network, which puts pressure on retailers to relocate their production facilities and networks in countries where costs are much lower, will result in sudden closures and loss of employment. Moving the jobs of workers to other countries where cheaper labor are provided indeed decrease the job opportunities for local workers who rely on their current jobs, and in turn impact the employment issue. More broadly speaking, globalization also enable the communication across national boundaries and enable the interchange of cultural diversity among different countries with diverse cultural backgrounds. As compared with the world without globalization, ordinary consumers now have access to products form different countries. People’s life have been improved as a result from globalization as we have greater access to the market. As the boundaries between nations are removed, the intercultural communication enable people to learn from other countries and draw in advanced technologies and different kinds of lifestyles as well as art, food, and languages. Socially we will be more open to each other from different countries as we learn different cultures and languages, and even travel to other countries to experience a new life. This pushes us as human beings to be more open and tolerant towards each other and to embrace more diverse perspectives. In other words, globalization also helps accelerate the influx of information, which push forward technology improvement, cultural diversification, and the overall advancement of the society.

Globalization may also raise problems of unfair workplace treatment and social injustice. In 2011, investigation found evidence of excessive overtime of Chinese workers at Apple’s factories in order to fulfill the high demand of Apple products and news came out reporting Apple’s unfair treatment to Chinese workers, including excessively overtime working and draconian rules as well as dangers at workplace according to Bilton. This allows each company to work on its specialized field and thus maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of both companies. Also, as the globalization increase competition among international companies, it ultimately drives price down and benefit ordinary consumers. With people pay increasing attention to the environmental pollution and more regulations enforced, the negative problems that brought by globalization can be confronted by people working it out together.

The impact of globalization should also be analyzed from multiple perspectives including different employment statuses and genders, different sub-sectors of economy, and different geographical regions. Globalization also allows each international company to focus on its core competencies, and thus maximize the efficiency of the global market. Although to some extent negative impacts are indeed brought by globalization, if people can capture the opportunities that are associated with globalization at the same time, globalization can be treated as a huge asset which can yield great returns. As a conclusion, Globalization benefits the society overall.
