Abstract
On 28th July 2008, Asanogawa river was flooded caused by localized torrential heavy rain
with an hourly rainfall of more than 100 mm. Then, a large number of houses suffered from
inundation damage. At the time of disaster, the local government issued evacuation preparation
information and evacuation advisory. A questionnaire survey was carried out to grasp the actual
situation of evacuation behavior and awareness of flood disaster in 2008. According the result
of questionnaire surveys, about 60% of the residents around Asanogawa river basin did not
know some disaster information in spite of providing them those of information from the local
government. Moreover, about 70% of commuters went to their schools or workplaces as usual.
It was revealed that the residents of Kanazawa city who did not have previous experiences of
flood disaster, could not get the information properly.
