先日、bio break という表現を知った。

Let’s take a bio break at the next rest stop.

次のサービスエリアでトイレ休憩を取りましょう。

英会話タイムトライアルで

紹介されていて比較的新しい表現で

トイレだけでなく水分補給などの意味も含めているような解釈とのことだった。なるほど🧐

私の辞書にはなかった。

古いものだけれど、綴りや品詞、例文の確認など、毎日お世話になっている。

知らない単語は、出来るだけ辞書で調べる。

そしてその近くに載っている興味ある単語や熟語を書き出す。

たまにネットで調べる時もあるが、やはりこのアナログな方法がいい。

カタカナで知ってる国名、地名、人名など英語表記になるとピンとこないものもある。

cleric という単語を調べていたとき、Cleopatra クレオパトラを見つけた。発音記号も確認。

英検、TOEIC等のテスト、

知らない単語は聞こえないし、見ても即座に理解できない。

serendipitous discovery 

辞書を開き、偶然の発見で語彙を増やす。

たまたまニュースで見たけれど、

単にGoogleなどで言葉を検索するのと比べて、生成AIで検索する方が消費電力が約10倍かかるそうだ。

省エネタイプのエアコンや照明器具で工夫して節電しても検索で電力を使うのかぁ〜

カロリーzeroの飲み物でポテトL🍟を食べる感じ笑笑

やはりecoな辞書にしよう😁

It’s been a long time.

いろいろあって、5月はあっという間に終わってしまった。

Actually I was a bit down, but my long-time friend’s words felt me relieved.

Thanks to her, I was able to see the thing out of the box.

へこみ気味だったけれど、友人の言葉に救われた。

Everyone has their off days.

誰だって調子が悪い日はある。

By the way, 

this season Tigers didn’t play well for a while, but they have been getting better recently!

最近、調子が上がってきた！

阪神が勝つと元気をもらえる！

While we’re on the subject of Hanshin Tigers, I’ll never forget the player who was given the number 24 uniform.

He passed away last July. 

All of the Tigers fans are deeply saddened.

病に倒れても、必死の頑張りで野球選手に復帰した。

His resilience and positivity were truly admirable.

He was a great player and his memory still alive in all Tigers fans.

When I’m faced with a difficult situation, I think of him.

まだまだ野球シーズンは始まったばかり。

I came across an interesting Internet video. My favorite actor; Denzel Washington is giving a commencement speech.

I was really impressed the word “fall forward “

For one thing, the way he talks.

How convincing!

For another, I have been feeling a bit down these days.

早く寝ようと思っていたのに、

そんなこと忘れて見入ってしまった。

It was so fascinating!

I’m a big fan of him, for I was really moved…???

It is worth watching especially people who are starting something new or a little bit feel down.

彼のファンだからではないと思う。

力強いスピーチは新しいことを始める人や、疲れた心に沁みていく。

Hi there!

I read an article about International women of the courage.

新聞で「国際勇気のある女性賞」についての記事を見た。

うーん🧐この賞は英語でなんというのだろう‥

International Women of the Brave?

違った💦　　　

→International Women of the Courage Award 

braveもcourageも勇気のあるという意味。

braveは勇敢な態度や行動にスポットが当たっている感じ。

→火事から犬を助けるなんて彼は勇敢だった。

It was brave of him to rescue a dog from a fire.

courageは、正しいことを正しいと

きちんと言える内面の強さ。

→禁煙の場所でタバコを吸ってる人に「禁煙ですよ」と言うとか。

It took a great courage for me to caution the old man not to smoke here.

なるほど。

他にもbold, plucky等々勇気に関する単語がある。

I said to myself “I had been more courageous, I wouldn’t have quit the previous job. “

内面の強さがあったらなぁ‥なんて。
