The other day,
I sent an email to ask one of our suppliers to change the order contents and quantity.

When it comes to convey the things like this by email, it tends to cause so-called misunderstanding each other.

Still I needed to cope with this urgently.
Because we almost run out of our stocks in a month or so.

I tried to make the sentences just simple and clear.

Then after I sent the message to our supplier,
The phone started ringing...

I got it and say もしもし(^｡^)

Wow 😅it's from the supplier😅

It was one of a staff who helps with an import and export division at our supplier.

I found that she was feeling the same thing ,
At this rate, it causes a misunderstanding 🤔
She just wanted to avoid causing some troubles.

Finally, we dealt with each other.


She told me,
You speak English so fluently 👌
I was admired. How did you learn?


I said...
I taught myself.
Practice makes perfect 🤗

One of my strong point is pronunciation.
I was glad that I could work by using my skill.

英語を勉強すればするほど、いかに自分の思うニュアンスの単語を探し出せるか‥
英語でメールをする時に考えてしまう‥

目指すは洗練された表現

やはり語彙力がモノを言う。

例えば、
上司が超〜偉そうな人だとする

Our boss is bossy.

うん、間違いはない。


でも、
Our boss is patronizing.

こう言うとネイティヴスピーカーには

「あー部下を見下した態度をとる嫌な上司なんだな。」と、一文で伝わる。


ちょっとした単語でその人のスキルのレベルがわかる。


ちょっとした前置詞の違いで文の意味が変わる例をもう一つ‥

He threw his T-shirt to me.
彼はTシャツを私の方に投げた。

He threw his T-shirt at me.
となると

彼はTシャツを私に投げつけた。

なんか怒ってたんかな？と、なる。

小さな表現一つで伝わり方が本当に違う

As for myself,
I'm good at listening and speaking.
Actually my skill is not good that enough likewise my current boss to writing something in English.

Especially for some contract in business world.


彼は仕事の英文契約書をサクサク作成する。

おそらくこの差が一級&準一級のレベルの違いだ。


先日、上司は初めてTOEICを受けたらしい。

点数には触れなかったが、
そんな彼でもリーディングセクションでは時間が足らず、最後までたどり着けなかったと。

TOEICは慣れだ。
私はラスト10分になったら、最後の10問ほどは先に適当にマークしてしまう。
blankよりは点数になる。

そしてリーディングセクションの解答を見直す。
うっかりミスでの失点を減らすため。

初受験の人にはなかなかできない。

私もまず彼から英検一級の裏ワザを聞くことから始めなければ。

長らく試験の話から遠のいていた。

私のすぐ近くに英検一級を持つ方がいる。

Actually, I report to him.
今の上司。

彼の書く英文メールはほとんど間違いがない。
前置詞、関係代名詞、どんな内容でも文法的なミスはない。
正確、しかも使えるビジネス英語。

実は私もかつて英検一級に挑戦した。
一度だけ。
結果は撃沈😢

出題される単語、辞書でしか見ないような単語ばかり。
長文は読むだけでめげるような難しい内容。
もう思い出せない。
ひどい点数だったことだけ覚えている。

しかも英検一級は面接試験では
五つのお題目から二つを選び、それについて英語で意見を述べる。

お題は自分で決められるとはいえ、なかなかtoughな課題。


彼は一発合格💮
I was in lucky.
ツイてただけと微笑む。

やはり語彙力、ニュースなど時事英語の情報収集。日頃からニューヨークタイムスを読んでいる。

私も怠けてないでそろそろTOEIC900点に挑戦しなければ(・・;)

いや英検一級か(^^;

TOEICは850以上で英検一級と同レベルかと私は思う。
文法力をつけなければならない。
