Kanichi and O-Miya had been sweethearts since they were kids and planned to marry...BUT...






Tadatsugu Tomiyama, who was super rich, arrived on the scene and proposed marriage to O-Miya.



He gave O-Miya a huge diamond which blinded her to everything else.


Kanichi found out that O-Miya had changed her mind and that she was going to marry Tomiyama. He was super-extra angry! They met at the beach in Atami. O-Miya cried, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" But Kanichi couldn't forgive her. "You've been blinded by a diamond!" he raged," and kicked at her!

O-Miya wasn't very happy at all! Well, maybe she thought such a thing and maybe not. O-Miya did marry Tomiyama but she was never really happy again. Kanichi became a "loan shark" and over time Tomiyama grew poorer and poorer.
