一昨夜のケアンズは曇天。月食は日食と違って、天気さえ良ければ地球上のすべての場所で同時に観察できます。来年11月13日の皆既日食は、ケアンズだけで観察可能。西洋の伝承では魔人が月を飲み込んで月食が起こるとか。一方日本では太陽神の天照大神が天の岩戸に隠れて日食が起きたとか。どちらも不吉の前兆？

Total eclipse of the moon Tue. December 13 : fine
It was cloudy in Cairns the night before yesterday. Being different from a solar eclipse we can observe a lunar eclipse from anywhere on the earth at the same time if the sky is clear. The total eclipse of the sun on November 13 next year will be able to be observed only in Cairns. According to the Western folktale lunar eclipse is caused when devil swallows the moon. On the other hand a solar eclipse is caused when the sun goddess, Amaterasu hides behind the Gate of the Celestial Rock Cave. Are they both the signs of bad fortune?
