りゅうタンまんも、１年生になりました。
ナターシャが説明してくれているような、"Snappy"なお話も楽しめる年齢になりました。
Snappy とか not mince なんて表現は感覚として難しいけど、体験を通すと覚えやすいものですね
幼い赤頭巾ちゃんのやってしまった間違いが恐ろしい結果を招きます。
"Don't Talk To Strangers!" 今、りゅうタンまんに一番教えたいモラルです

Once upon a time there lived in a certain village a little country girl, the prettiest creature who was ever seen.
　むかしむかし、とある村に見たこともないくらい可愛らしい小さな女の子が住んでいました。

Her mother was excessively fond of her; and her grandmother doted on her still more.
　お母さんはとってもその女の子をかわいがり、お婆ちゃんはもっと溺愛していました。

This good woman had a little red riding hood made for her.
　このやさしいお婆ちゃんはその女の子のために赤頭巾をこしらえました。

It suited the girl so extremely well that everybody called her Little Red Riding Hood.
　それがとっても似合っていたので、みんな女の子を赤頭巾ちゃんと呼んでいました。

One day her mother, having made some cakes, said to her,
“Go, my dear, and see how your grandmother is doing, for I hear she has been very ill. Take her a cake, and this little pot of butter.”
　ある日、お母さんはケーキを作り、女の子に言いました。
「赤頭巾ちゃん、お婆ちゃんが病気だって聞いたので、どうしているのか、見てきてちょうだい。ケーキとバターの小瓶を持ってお行きなさい。」

Little Red Riding Hood set out immediately to go to her grandmother, who lived in another village.
　赤頭巾ちゃんは、他の村に住むお婆ちゃんの家へ直ぐに出かけました。

As she was going through the wood, she met with a wolf, who had a very great mind to eat her up, but he dared not, because of some woodcutters nearby working in the forest.
　森を通り抜けようとしている時、一匹の狼に会いました。その狼は赤頭巾ちゃんを食べたいと思っていたけど、敢えてしませんでした。きこり達が森の直ぐ傍で働いていたからです。

He asked her where she was going.
　狼は女の子に何処にいくの？と聞きました。

The poor child, who did not know that it was dangerous to stay and talk to a wolf, said to him,
“I am going to see my grandmother and carry her a cake and a little pot of butter from my mother.”
　気の毒に女の子は、狼と話したりすることが、危険だとは知りませんでした。
　「お婆ちゃんに会いにいくのよ。ママのおつかいのケーキとバターの小瓶を持っていくの」と、話しました。

“Does she live far off?” said the wolf
「お婆ちゃん家は遠いのかい？」と狼が聞きました。

“Oh I say,” answered Little Red Riding Hood; “it is beyond that mill you see there, at the first house in the village.”
　「あのね、あの水車小屋が見えるでしょ、あの向こう側。村の一番手前の家よ」と、赤頭巾ちゃんは答えました。

“Well,” said the wolf, “and I'll go and see her too. I'll go this way and go you that, and we shall see who will be there first.”
　「そうかい。じゃ、俺も会いに行こうっと。俺はこっちへ行くから、赤頭巾ちゃんはあっちからお行きよ。そしたら、どっちが先にあそこに着くかな。」と、狼は言いました。

The wolf ran as fast as he could, taking the shortest path, and the little girl took a roundabout way, entertaining herself by gathering nuts, running after butterflies, and gathering bouquets of little flowers.
　狼は出来るだけ急いで近道を通り、女の子は木の実を集めたり、ちょうちょを追いかけたり、小さな花束を作ったり、遊びながら遠回りをしました。

It was not long before the wolf arrived at the old woman's house. He knocked at the door: tap, tap.
　狼がお婆ちゃんの家に到着するまでさほどかかりませんでした。そしてトントンとドアを叩きました。

“Who's there?”
「どなた？」

“Your grandchild, Little Red Riding Hood,” replied the wolf, faking her voice; “who has brought you a cake and a little pot of butter sent you by mother.”
　「お母さんのおつかいで、ケーキをバターの小瓶を持ってきた孫の赤頭巾ちゃんです」と、狼が赤頭巾ちゃんの振りをして返事をしました。

The good grandmother, who was in bed, because she was somewhat ill, cried out, “Pull the string, and the latch will go up.”
　おばあちゃんは何かの病気でベットに横になっていました。
「紐を引っ張って、ドアの鍵を上に引き上げなさいな」と、大きな声でいいました。

The wolf pulled the string, and the door opened, and then he immediately fell upon the good woman and ate her up in a moment, for it been more than three days since he had eaten.
　狼は紐をひいてドアを開け、一瞬の内にお婆ちゃんに襲い掛かかり、あっという間に食べてしまいました。狼は３日以上何も食べていなかったのです。

He then shut the door and got into the grandmother's bed, expecting Little Red Riding Hood, who came some time afterwards and knocked at the door: tap, tap.
　そしてドアを閉め、おばあちゃんのベットに潜り込み、赤頭巾ちゃんを待っていました。暫くして赤頭巾ちゃんがトントンと、ドアを叩きました。

“Who's there?”
「どなた？」

Little Red Riding Hood, hearing the big voice of the wolf, was at first afraid; but believing her grandmother had a cold and was hoarse, answered,
“It is your grandchild Little Red Riding Hood, who has brought you a cake and a little pot of butter mother sends you.”
赤頭巾ちゃんは、狼の大きな声を聞いたので、初めは怖かったのですが、風邪のために酷い声なのだろうと思い、
「孫の赤頭巾ちゃんです。ママのおつかいでケーキとバターの小瓶を持って来ました」
と、答えました。

The wolf cried out to her, softening his voice as much as he could,
“Pull the string, and the latch will go up.”
出来る限り優しい声で言いました。
「紐を引っ張って、ドアの鍵を引き上げなさいな」

Little Red Riding Hood pulled the string, and the door opened.
赤頭巾ちゃんは紐を引っ張り、ドアを開けました。

The wolf, seeing her come in, said to her, hiding himself under the bedclothes,
“Put the cake and the little pot of butter upon the stool, and come sit on the bed with me.”
狼は女の子が近づいてくるのを見ながら、布団に隠れました。
「ケーキとバターの小瓶を円椅子の上に置いておくれ、それからおばあちゃんのベットへ来てお座り」

Little Red Riding Hood sat on the bed.
She was greatly amazed to see how her grandmother looked in her nightclothes, and said to her,
“Grandmother, what big arms you've got!”
赤頭巾ちゃんはベットの横に座りました。
布団の中のお婆ちゃんを驚いて見つめて言いました。
「お婆ちゃん、なんて大きな手をしてるの！？」

“All the better to hug you with, my dear.”
「お前を抱きしめるためよ、私の可愛い子ちゃん」

“Grandmother, what big legs you have!”
「おばあちゃん、なんて大きな足をしているの！？」

“All the better to run with, my child.”
「走るのに都合がいいのよ、かわいこちゃん」

“Grandmother, what big ears you have!”
「おばあちゃん、なんて大きな耳をしているの！？」

“All the better to hear you with, my child.”
「お前の声がよく聞こえるようにだよ、かわいこちゃん」

“Grandmother, what big eyes you've got!”
「おばあちゃん、なんて大きな目をしてるの！？」

“All the better to see you with, my child.”
「お前がよく見えるようにだよ、かわいこちゃん」

“And Grandmother, what big teeth you've got!”
「それに、おばあちゃん、なんて大きな歯をしているの！？」

“All the better to eat you up with.”
「お前を食べるためにだ！」

And, saying these words, this wicked wolf fell upon Little Red Riding Hood, and ate her all up.
そして、言い終わらないうちに、悪い狼は赤頭巾ちゃんに襲い掛かり、すっかり食べてしまいました。
