クリスマス・パーティーで酔っ払って、教えてもらったばかりの"I'm toast."を連発すると、カナダ人はみんな笑ってくれる。英語の下手な日本人が俗語を使うと妙に受ける。Christianはこの言葉が好きなのか、しょっちゅう使っている。酔った時だけでなく、疲れた時など、人としてまともに機能しなくなった時に使えるようだ。手元の辞書を見ても"toast"は形容詞とはなっていないが、形容詞的な用法だろう。試しに"I'm a toast."と言ってみたら、「俺はパンだ!?」というような感じで、意味不明な英語として奴らには聞こえるようだ。
