なんか、ジンバブェには The Herald という新聞があるらしい。
この The Herald、ジンバブェ政府持ちの新聞という曰くつきの一品。
だが、俺はその記事を読んだことが無かった（面倒だから）。
ってことで、初めて The Herald の見解を公式サイトで読んでみたのだが・・・。
・The disconnect in electoral democracy（2008年4月23日 herald.co.zw;web魚拓）
今回ネタにするのは、野党側の MDC と外国による3月の総選挙結果開示を求める主張への批判を繰り広げてる論説。
この論説を書いた Reason Wafawarova 氏は、前半は米大統領選を引き合いに出して長々と選挙での印象操作について語っている。
その上で、野党 MDC の指導者である Tsvangiri 氏と外国批判を行っている。
以下、The Herald からその部分を引用しておく。

The Western media has done all in its power to create the image of democracy in the person of Tsvangirai and his MDC--that despite the man’s despicable record of dictatorial tendencies within his own party.

The West has done all in its power to thwart the platform for black empowerment in Zimbabwe while promoting the vainglorious image of democracy through a man who is hardly democratic even to himself.

どこかの国（首都が北緯35度・東経139度あたりにある国）の政府御用新聞で良く見られる政府擁護の主張としか思えない。
まぁ、野党側の Tsvangirai 氏が本当に Mugabe 大統領より指導力があるのか不明な点もあるけどさ・・・。
だとしても、ここまで Mugabe 大統領を褒めるのは正直理解不能だっぺよ～。
だが、Wafawarova 氏の MDC と外国批判はこれで終わらない。
今度は、米とかがイラク等で振り広げてる民主化を批判しつつ、外国から総選挙結果公表を求める動きをジンバブェの民主主義を壊すものだと批判している。
その上で、ジンバブェの総選挙で再集計結果が公表されない点について政府を擁護している。
そして最後に Wafawarova 氏は、読者に向けて政府を支持するようなコメントを残している。

Dear reader, this writer shares the agony of waiting for the Zimbabwean election result with all peace-loving citizens. In fact, this writer did not sleep for at least three days after March 29.
However, the predicament we find ourselves in cannot be described as the killing of democracy.
Given all benefit of doubt and accorded all credibility due to it, ZEC may one day be applauded for ensuring that a true and correctly reflective result of the election is announced.
Let us not be fooled.
No one has killed democracy in Zimbabwe.
It is homeland or death.

Mugabe 大統領にしてみれば、何かにつけて色々文句を言う西側諸国に対して恨みを持つのは当然なんだろうけど・・・。
だからといって、選挙時に投票を強要する Mugabe 政権や与党の姿勢を容認できるか？
しかも、このような状況を知ってか知らずに政権擁護の論調を張る（張らされてる？） Wafawarova 氏って一体難なのよ？
本当に訳がわからない。
それにしても。
ジンバブェの人達が、The Herald の記事だけを読んでるとは思えないんだよな。
ま、The Herald の記事は、国外の人達に向けた政府広報の役割も果たしてるのかもしれないけど。
って、俺が書くなっての・・・。
