久しぶりにご対面させて頂きました！
It's been a long time since we last met!
もうかれこれ30年以上前になるとは思うのですが、其の当時は、年に2回はアメリカのラスベガスで開催されます
MAGIC（因みにイリュージョンの方ではございません）に出向きまして新品のアメリカ物に関してはオーダーしており
まして、其の当時はバリーブリッケンやBDバギーズから其の当時はBARBOURやGLOBERALLなどの英国物もアメリカ
から並行で輸入しておりました。
其の当時、ブースを見まして一目惚れしましたのが、
It must have been more than 30 years ago, but back then I would go to MAGIC (not Illusion, by the way) twice a year, which is held in Las Vegas, USA, and order new American products. At that time, we imported Barry Bricken and BD Baggies, as well as British products such as BARBOUR and GLOBERALL from the US. At that time, I saw a booth and fell in love at first sight with this product.
こちらのWillis&Geigerなんです。
僕の知識では其の当時、ウィリスアンドガイガーと云えばヴィンテージのA-2ジャケットが思い浮かぶ感じ
でしたが、其のブースはまるでアフリカのグレートハンティングを思わせる雰囲気で、TANとPEWTER（セージグリーン）
のお色のハンティングジャケットやハンティングベストなどが小洒落て展示されておりました！
確かMAGICでも雰囲気の良い演出などの賞も受賞されてたと思います。
其の後、ニューヨークに出向く機会がありまして、Willis&Geigerのオフィスを訪れまして、色々な商品を発注致しまして
実店舗でも販売しておりました！
僕もヘミングウェイジャケットや同素材のバミューダショーツなど購入しましてお気に入りで愛用しておりました。
着込めば着込むほどに味わい良く経年変化を魅せるブッシュポプリンに魅了されたもんです。
ひょっとしましたら其の当時のジャケットなどが倉庫のどこかに眠っているかと思うのですが、其の当時は全て米国製
でしたのでサイズもかなり大きかったと記憶しておりますから、現在着用する事は不可能かと思います。
このウィリスアンドガイガーの使用しておりますブッシュポプリンは、4PLYのコットンで編み立てられておりまして
強度も強くて耐久性にも優れているのですが、着心地も最初から、そこまでタフではないのが嬉しいですね。
This is Willis & Geiger.
At the time, I thought of Willis & Geiger as a vintage A-2 jacket
but the booth had an atmosphere reminiscent of the Great Hunt in Africa, with hunting jackets and hunting vests in tan and pewter (sage green)
stylishly displayed!
I think they also won an award for good atmosphere at MAGIC.
After that, I had the opportunity to go to New York, visited the Willis & Geiger office, and ordered various products
which were also sold in the physical store!
I also bought a Hemingway jacket and Bermuda shorts made of the same material, and they were my favorites.
I was fascinated by bush poplin, which becomes more tasteful and changes over time the more you wear it.
I think there may be some jackets from that time still lying around in the warehouse somewhere, but since they were all made in the US
at the time, I remember they were quite large, so I don't think it would be possible to wear them now.
The bush poplin used by Willis & Geiger is knitted from 4-ply cotton
which is strong and durable, but it's nice that it's not too tough to wear from the start.
早速、試着してみました！
サンプルサイズは、38サイズでしたが、そこまで大き過ぎる事もなくて、このサイズ感なら僕達日本人でも充分
だなと思いました。
すると、代理店の方から、生地は米国で作られますブッシュポプリンですが、日本人に合わせて日本の工場で縫製
していると仰っておりました。
生地が其の当時と同じ生地なら着込めば、あのエエ感じな経年変化も楽しめるし、おまけに日本での縫製なら
僕達にも丁度良いサイズ感で愛用出来ると、これ以上ない喜びとなりますね。
上記の写真が、ウィリスアンドガイガーの代名詞的なヘミングウェイジャケットのTANのお色になります。
I tried it on right away!
The sample size was 38, but it wasn't too big and I thought it would be enough for Japanese people like us.
The distributor then told me that the fabric is bush poplin made in the US, but sewn in a factory in Japan to suit Japanese people.
If the fabric is the same as it was back then, we can enjoy the nice aging effect as we wear it, and if it's sewn in Japan, it will be just the right size for us, which would be a great joy.
The photo above shows the TAN color of the Hemingway jacket, which is synonymous with Willis & Geiger.
そして、こちらがPEWTERと云うセージグリーンみたいなお色目になります。
（こちらは40サイズなので僕にはかなり大きかったです）
こちらは、かのヘミングウェイがアフリカ探検に行く際、ウィリスアンドガイガーに作らせましたモデルになります。
伝統的なウエストベルトを削除しましてウエストにゴムシャーリングを入れさせまして、右肩にはガンパッチそして
左胸にはライフルのカートリッジが装備できるポケットも配備しております。
フロントは、パッチ付きの4ポケットで、大容量なので色々な物も収納可能となります。
And this one is called PEWTER and is a sage green color.
(This one is size 40, so it was quite big for me)
This is the model that Hemingway had Willis & Geiger make for him when he went on an expedition to Africa.
The traditional waist belt has been removed and elastic shirring has been added to the waist, there is a gun patch on the right shoulder,
and there is a pocket on the left chest that can hold rifle cartridges.
The front has four pockets with patches, and its large capacity means you can store a variety of items.
そして左袖には彼の眼鏡を収めるポケットが装備されております。
ヘミングウェイの拘りが色々と詰まりましたジャケットとなります。
さて気になるお値段なのですが、現状米国でヘミングウェイを作りますと、人件費の高騰や現在の為替ですと
250000円相当になってしまうのですが、こちらは生地は米国から取り寄せまして日本で縫製致しますので、
消費税込みで99000円になります。
かなりお買い得なお値段になりサイズもジャストで着用出来まして、おまけに着れば着るほど素敵な経年変化も
お楽しみできると云う事無しかと思いますね。
（現在では洋服などのパターンもキャドなどで作るのですが、こちらは当時の手引きのパターンを使用しまして
縫製致しますので、昔のどこか温かみの残る洋服に仕上がっておりますね）
因みに僕のサイズで36サイズになると思います。
もう一枚は、これまたレアーな逸品となります。
There is also a pocket on the left sleeve to store his glasses.
This jacket is full of Hemingway's attention to detail.
Now, as for the price, if we were to make a Hemingway in the US, it would cost 250,000 yen due to rising labour costs and the current exchange rate, but this one will be sewn in Japan, so it will be 99,000 yen including tax.
It's a great deal at a great price, and the size fits just right, and the more you wear it, the more you can enjoy the beautiful changes that occur over time.
(These days, patterns for clothes and other items are made using CAD, but this one is sewn using a manual pattern from that time, so it has a warm feeling of the past.)
By the way, I think it's a size 36 for me.
The other one is also a rare item.
米空軍のサマーフライトジャケットAN6551品番！
これ実はWillis&Geigerが商品化しなかったモデルで、今回初お目見えとなります。
1950年代の夏もしくは熱帯地方での戦闘を目的としましたフライトジャケットでヘミングウェイと同じ
ブッシュポプリンを使用しております。
お襟は襟が立て易いショールカラーになり、フロントには４パッチポケットを採用しております。
当時は、高高度まで飛ばなくて飛行機自体の機密性も低くて防寒性をそこまで求めなかったので、こちらの
ブッシュポプリンを使用したそうです。
特徴としては、
US Air Force summer flight jacket, item number AN6551!
This is actually a model that Willis & Geiger never commercialized, and it will be making its first appearance.
This flight jacket was designed for combat in the summer or tropical regions in the 1950s, and is made of the same bush poplin as the Hemingway.
The collar is a shawl collar that is easy to stand up, and there are four patch pockets on the front.
At the time, planes did not fly at high altitudes, and the aircraft themselves were not very airtight, so there was not much need for protection from the cold, so this bush poplin was used.
Its features include:
両肩から脇に掛けての大きなアクションプリーツで可動域を確保しまして、
Large action pleats from both shoulders to sides ensure a wide range of motion.
こちらの二段の独特な脇マチで操縦桿を握り易くしているそうです。
こちらはTANのみのお色で同じく99000円となります。
どちらも魅力的でしたので、ヘミングウェイをPEWTERでフライトジャケットをTANにしようかと
目論んでおります。
