兄火闌降命。自有海幸。〈幸。此云左知。〉弟火火出見尊。自有山幸。始兄弟二人相謂曰。試欲易幸。遂相易之。各不得其利。兄悔之乃還弟弓箭。而乞己釣鈎。弟時既失兄鈎。無由訪覓。故別作新鈎與兄。兄不肯受而責其故鈎。弟患之。即以其横刀鍛作新鈎。盛一箕而與之。兄忿之曰。非我故鈎雖多不取。益復急責。故火火出見尊憂苦甚深。

Elder brother Ho-no-Susori-no-Mikoto originally possessed the ability to obtain blessings from the sea. On the other hand, younger brother Hiko-Hi-no-Deity originally possessed the power to receive blessings from the mountains. The two brothers deliberated and said, “Let’s try exchanging our respective blessings.”
However, when they actually attempted the exchange, each couldn’t obtain the other’s blessings. The elder brother regretted the decision, returned the younger brother’s bow and arrow, and requested the return of his own fishing hook. The younger brother had already lost the elder brother’s fishing hook and had no means to find it.
Therefore, he separately crafted a new hook and presented it to his elder brother. The elder brother, unwilling to accept it, insisted on the return of the original hook. Troubled, the younger brother forged a new hook with his own sword, filled a winnowing basket with it, and offered it to his elder brother. Despite this, the elder brother became angry and stated, “Unless it’s my original hook, I won’t accept it, no matter how much you send,” intensifying his reprimand.
≪この英文の和訳≫
兄の火闌降命（ほのすそりのみこと）は、もともと海の幸を得る力を備えていた。弟の彦火火出見尊（ひこほほでみのみこと）は、もともと山の幸を得る力を備えていた。その兄弟二人は相談し、「ためしに二人の幸を取りかえてみよう」と言った。
そして実際に取り換えてみたが、それぞれの幸を得られなかった。兄は後悔して弟の弓矢を返し、自分の釣針を返してくれといった。弟はすでに兄の釣針を失っていて、探し求める法もなかった。
そこで別に新しい針を作って兄に与えた。兄はこれを承服せず、もとの針を要求した。弟は悩んで、自分の太刀で新しい針を鍛えて、箕（み）に一杯に盛って贈った。それでも兄は怒って、「私のもとの針でなければ、たくさん寄越しても受取れない」といって、さらに責めた。
