『日本書紀』景行天皇 5
於是、武諸木等、先誘麻剥之徒。仍賜赤衣・褌及種々奇物、兼令撝不服之三人。乃率己衆而參來、悉捕誅之。天皇遂幸筑紫、到豐前國長峽縣、興行宮而居、故號其處曰京也。
冬十月、到碩田國。其地形廣大亦麗、因名碩田也。碩田、此云於保岐陀。到速見邑、有女人、曰速津媛、爲一處之長。其聞天皇車駕而自奉迎之諮言「茲山有大石窟、曰鼠石窟、有二土蜘蛛、住其石窟。一曰靑、二曰白。又於直入縣禰疑野、有三土蜘蛛、一曰打猨、二曰八田、三曰國摩侶。是五人、並其爲人强力、亦衆類多之、皆曰『不從皇命。』若强喚者、興兵距焉。」天皇惡之、不得進行、卽留于來田見邑、權興宮室而居之。
仍與群臣議之曰「今多動兵衆、以討土蜘蛛。若其畏我兵勢、將隱山野、必爲後愁。」則採海石榴樹、作椎爲兵。因簡猛卒、授兵椎、以穿山排草、襲石室土蜘蛛而破于稻葉川上、悉殺其黨、血流至踝。故、時人其作海石榴椎之處曰海石榴市、亦血流之處曰血田也。復將討打猨、侄度禰疑山。時賊虜之矢、横自山射之、流於官軍前如雨。天皇、更返城原而卜於水上、便勒兵、先擊八田於禰疑野而破。爰打猨謂不可勝而請服、然不聽矣、皆自投澗谷而死之。
天皇、初將討賊、次于柏峽大野、其野有石、長六尺・廣三尺・厚一尺五寸。天皇祈之曰「朕得滅土蜘蛛者、將蹶茲石、如柏葉而舉焉。」因蹶之、則如柏上於大虛。故、號其石曰蹈石也。是時禱神、則志我神・直入物部神・直入中臣神三神矣。

Hence、Takemoroki and others first enticed the followers of Asahagi by presenting them with red garments, loincloths, and various rare items, including luring out three individuals who were unwilling to comply. They then captured and executed all who came with their groups. Emperor Keikō eventually made his way to Tsukushi, arriving in Nagao County of Buzen Province (present-day Nagao, Fukuoka Prefecture), where he established Kari no Miya(a temporary palace) and rested, hence naming the place Miyako (present-day Kyoto, Fukuoka Prefecture).
In the tenth month of winter, the Emperor arrived in the country of Okita, a land wide and beautiful, thus named Okita. Upon reaching Hayatsumura, he encountered a woman named Hayatsuhime, the chief of that place. Upon hearing of the Emperor’s arrival, she personally welcomed him and reported, “In this mountain lies a large cave called Mouse Cave, inhabited by two Earth Spiders named Blue and White. Additionally, in Negino of the Naoiri County (present-day Naoiri, Ōita Prefecture), there are three more Earth Spiders named Uchisaru, Yata, and Kunimaro. These five individuals, each strong and with many followers, all claim they will not obey the imperial command and have vowed to raise arms in defiance if forced.” The Emperor, displeased and unable to proceed further, stayed in Kutamimura, where he temporarily resided.
The Emperor and his ministers deliberated, deciding to mobilize a large force to subdue the Earth Spiders, anticipating that if the Earth Spiders were to flee in fear of the military might, they would become a future nuisance. Therefore, weapons were fashioned from camellia trees, and strong soldiers were equipped with these to pierce through mountains and grass, ambushing the Earth Spiders in their stone chambers and defeating them above Inaba River, leaving their allies dead, with blood reaching the ankles. The place where the camellia mallets were made was called Tsubaki Market, and where the blood flowed became known as Chida.
Furthermore, when attempting to subdue Uchisaru, crossing Negi Mountain, the enemy’s arrows flew from the side mountains like rain. The Emperor, returning to Jōhara, conducted divination by the river, regrouped his forces, and first defeated Yata in Negi Field. Uchisaru, deeming himself unbeatable, requested to surrender but was not spared and, along with others, leapt into valleys to their deaths.
Before setting out to vanquish the foes, the Emperor stayed in Kashio’s vast fields, where he found a stone six feet long, three feet wide, and one foot and five inches thick. He prophesized through divination, saying, “If I am to eradicate the Earth Spiders, I shall kick this stone, and it shall soar into the sky like a cypress leaf.” Upon kicking it, the stone indeed flew high into the air, and thus the stone was named Homi-Ishi (the Stepping Stone). At that time, prayers were offered to three deities: Shiga God, Naoiri Mononobe God, and Naoiri Nakatomi God.

そこで、武諸木(たけもろき)たちは、麻剥(あさはぎ)の徒を誘い出すために、赤い衣服や褌(ふんどし)、様々な珍しい物を贈りました。また、従わないと言った三人も含めて、彼らが仲間を引き連れてやって来たところを全員捕らえて殺しました。その後、天皇は筑紫(つくし)に向かい、豊前国(ぶぜんのくに)の長峡県(ながおのあがた)に着き、そこで行宮(かりのみや)を建てて休まれました。その場所は「京(みやこ)」と名付けられました。
冬の十月に、天皇は碩田国(おおきたのくに)に到着されました。その地は広くて美しく、「碩田(やすかわおおきた)」と名付けられました。速見村(はやつむら)に到着した時、速津媛(はやつひめ)という女性がいて、その地の長でした。天皇の到着を聞いて、彼女は自ら迎えに出て、「この山には大きな石窟があり、そこには青と白という名の二人の土蜘蛛(つちぐも)が住んでいます。また、直入県(なおいりのあがた)の禰疑野(ねぎの)には、打猿(うちざる)、八田(やた)、国麻侶(くにまろ)という三人の土蜘蛛がいます。これら五人はみな力が強く、多くの仲間を持っており、皇命には従わないと言っています。もし強いられたら、戦うと言っています」と報告しました。
天皇はこの状況を好ましく思われず、進めずに来田見村(くたみむら)に留まり、そこに仮の宮を建てられました。その後、土蜘蛛を討つために多くの兵を動かすべきかどうか群臣と相談しました。もし、我が兵の勢いに恐れて山野に隠れたら、後にきっと災いをなすだろう」と言われた。そこで、椿の木で作った椎(つち)を武器として、強い兵士に与え、土蜘蛛を石室で襲って全員を殺しました。血は流れて踩(くるぶし)まで浸かった。当時の人は、椿の椎を作ったところを海石榴市(つばきいち)と呼び、また、血の流れたところを血田(ちだ)といった。
さらに、打猿を討とうとした時、禰疑山(ねぎのやま)を越え、敵の矢が雨のように飛んできました。天皇は戦略を変え、八田をまず打ち破りました。打猿は降伏を申し出ましたが、許されずに、最終的には全員が自ら命を絶ちました。
天皇が敵を討つために柏峡(かしわお)の大野に進まれた時、そこには長さが六尺、幅が三尺、厚さが一尺五寸の石がありました。天皇は、もし土蜘蛛を滅ぼすことができれば、この石を蹴り上げて柏の葉のように舞い上がらせると占いによって宣言されました。そして、実際に石を蹴ると、それは空高く舞い上がりました。そのため、その石は「踏石(ほみいし)」と名付けられました。この時、天皇は志我神(しがのかみ)、直入物部神(なおりのもののべのかみ)、直入中臣神(なおりのなかとみのかみ)の三神に祈りを捧げました。
