There are also old men who drag themselves
forward in the sad gloaming that falls from
the glazed roof, and bands of small childrern
who come to the arcade on leaving school, to
make a noise by stamping their feet on the
tiles as they run along.

ガラス張りの屋根から夕方の薄明かりが、物悲しく入り
込む頃には、老人たちのとぼとぼと歩いて行く姿がある.
また学校帰りの子供たちも集団で、このアーケードにや
って来る.その結果は彼らが通るたびに、靴で敷石を打
ち鳴らして、けたたましい音を立てて行くというわけだ.
