日馬富士、暴行認め引退

　Grand champion Harumafuji ended his

17-year sumo career after admitting to

injuring a lower-ranked wrestler.

The incident has tarnished the image of

Japan's ancient sport.

"I take responsibility as a yokozuna

for injuring Takanoiwa and announce

my retirement as of today.

I offer my sincere and deep apologies,"

Harumafuji said.


　横網日馬富士関は、格下の力士にけがを

負わせたことを認め、１７年の相撲人生を終

わらせた。事件は、日本の国技のイメージを

汚した。

　日馬富士関は、「貴ノ岩関にけがを負わせ

たことに対し、横網としての責任を感じ、

本日をもって引退させていただきます。心

から深くおわび申し上げます」と語った。

光る物体落下、投稿続々

A bright object was seen streaking

through the night sky in eastern and

western Japan, prompting people to

post videos and photos on social media.

"It was likely a fireball, a small

object several centimeters in diameter

that lit up after hitting the earth's

atmosphere," an astrophysicist said.

光り輝く物体が夜空を素早く落下するのが、

東日本から西日本にかけて目撃され、

人々は動画や写真をソーシャルメディアに投稿した。

　天体物理学者は、「地球の大気にぶつかって発光した

直径数センチの小物体、火球の可能性が高い」と話した。

４０年たっても進展せず

　The parents of a girl who was abducted

by North Korea expressed frustration

at the lack of progress in efforts to

return her 40 years after her kidnapping at 13.

"She is in a country so close.

Why can we not rescue her?"

Sakie Yokota,81 said of her daughter Megumi.

　北朝鮮に拉致された少女の両親が、少女

が１３歳で拉致されてから４０年たっても帰国

に向けた進展がないことに落胆をあらわにした。

　横田早紀江さん（８１）は娘のめぐみさんに

ついて、「すぐ近い国にいる。どうして助け

てあげられないのか」と語った。

車のブレーキが利かない・2017年12月10日（日）

今年の８月２４日の夜のことです。講演会に参加していました。

講演会が終わって帰ろうとして車に乗りました。

少し走らせてブレーキを踏みました。ブレーキが利かないのです。
　
なんと！ブレーキが故障しているのです。ブレーキを押してもプカプカしています。

少し走らせましたが、危険と判断してJAFに電話をしました。

　実は、１週間前から赤いビックリマークが点滅していたのです。私は、サイドブレーキの不具合と

簡単に考えて放置していました。２９日は法定１２ヶ月点検の予約を入れてあったので、

その時に見てもらおうと考えていました。

　３０分後にJAFの車がきて、その車で修理工場（オートバックス）に私の車を運びました。

代車も２９日にならないと借りることができないので不便です。

　教訓として赤いビックリマークが点滅したら、すぐ修理工場に持っていくべきだと思いました。

結局、その車は廃車にしました。
