The Buurgbrennen" is a Luxembourg tradition which dates back to the celtic era and pagan time. The term comes from the Latin verb "com-buro" which means "to burn". It consist of bilding a large fire on the highest hill in order to chase away the bad sprit of winter. The end of winter and beginning of spring signals the start of the "festival of torches" on Sunday 1 March, 2009.
