Experimental Research to Prevent the Mistake of
Pressing Down the Accelerator Instead of Brake (1)

The purpose of this study is to provide a fundamental solution to the numerous automatic transmission vehicle accidents caused by unintended sudden acceleration. The likely leading factor behind the numerous number of accidents attributed to unintended sudden acceleration is the dual accelerator and brake pedal placement. To eliminate the number of vehicle accidents attributed to sudden acceleration, the N-pedal was invented. The N-pedal is a revolutionary combined type of a lever for accelerator – on a pedal for braking. As the pedal is attached on the pedal, drivers can accelerate by moving lever right slightly and when they want to braking drivers just press down lever the pedal by their foot on the pedal. Several experiments have been conducted to validate both the superior ergonomics and performance of the N-pedal over the traditional designed pedal in use.
