Yasuhiro Nagano Opinion

June 14, 2025 (Saturday edition)
President Trump saved America's manufacturing industry. "Steel is the nation itself." Nippon Steel to make US Steel a wholly owned subsidiary. Nippon Steel has signed a security agreement with the US government to acquire US Steel. Good, good!

The Trump administration cannot foresee the revival of the steel industry with additional tariffs alone. What is needed is to strengthen competitiveness.
"Steel is the nation itself." Without high-quality steel, automobiles cannot maintain their competitiveness.

US Steel has posted a final deficit for two consecutive quarters. US Steel is in a difficult business situation and is considering restructuring. President Trump has saved the workers of "US Steel."

Nippon Steel has appealed that "large-scale investment is essential" to revive US Steel, and is believed to have gained the understanding of President Trump, who advocates "revitalizing US manufacturing."

Regarding the acquisition plan, there was a proposal that US Steel would issue special shares called "golden shares" with veto power on important matters, and the US government would hold them.

However, for Nippon Steel, the realization of a wholly owned subsidiary is a condition that cannot be compromised in order to maximize technology transfer and investment effects, and with the conclusion of this agreement, the two parties may have found a compromise. This is a good thing.

The United States relies on imports for 30% of the steel products used domestically, and there is a view within the U.S. government that a decrease in domestic steel production will lead to a decline in national power through the decline of the manufacturing industry.

The imposition of an additional 25% tariff on steel products in March of this year is also part of the countermeasures. However, the Trump tariffs will not lead to the revival of the steel industry. Technological capabilities and investment are essential for revival.

Nippon Steel has a large responsibility. US Steel should be made the most advanced steelworks in the world. American steelworkers should be given the economic freedom to "enjoy beer at home."

Next is automobiles. If Nippon Steel supplies "steel sheets for automobiles," the performance of American cars will improve. Next, "balanced countervailing duties" should be introduced to "normalize" Japan-U.S. automobile trade.

To achieve this, GM of America and Nissan of Japan should enter into a sales partnership and sell each other's cars. President Trump's dream is to export American cars to Japan on Nissan's car carriers.

Nissan of Japan should export Nissan cars to America on Nissan's car carriers. On the return journey, American-made GM cars should be loaded onto a special ship and imported to Japan.

Export Nissan cars from Japan to America. On the return journey, export American-made GM cars from America to Japan. America should impose a "balanced countervailing duty" on tariffs.

A "tariff" should be imposed on the difference between the amount of exports from Japan to America and the amount of exports from America to Japan. If a balance is achieved, the "Trump tariff" should be "zero."

The Trump administration should "mediate" GM and Nissan to enter into a sales partnership so that they can import and sell each other's cars.

In particular, Nissan should be ordered to sell Cadillacs, a symbol of America, as its main product. Nissan should be required to sell more vehicles than Mercedes-Benz within two years.

GM should be ordered to sell Nissan minicars at GM dealerships. Cadillac and minicars are complementary, not competitive.

The Trump administration should exceptionally certify Nissan minicars as American-standard vehicles and allow their import. Formal approval should be determined based on the current status of Nissan minicars.

The Trump administration should insist that trade is balanced. Therefore, the Trump tariffs should offset export and import amounts and impose tariffs on the difference. This will expand global trade.

The Trump tariffs alone are not enough to strengthen US automobiles. US automobiles should be exported to the world. In particular, Japan, Germany, and South Korea should be forced to enter into sales partnerships with US automakers.

I will write again tomorrow.

Part 2. "Immigration Control Act Violation Cases" "Saturday Edition".
Please see the weekday edition for Chapters 1 and 2.

"Chapter 3". I also appealed to the international community.
"I" explained my case using "legal logic" and claimed "innocence". However, the police and prosecutors said that I should "admit" my "guilt" in "general terms".

However, Article 31 of the Japanese Constitution stipulates that punishment can only be imposed based on "legal and administrative law".

The judge explained the "causal relationship" using the logic of "when the wind blows, the (cooper) makes money". The international community will "laugh" when they "see" the (reason for punishment) in Chapter 2.

I am "appealing" for two things.
1: The foreigner was "illegally working" outside of his "legal residence status". However, he is innocent due to "equality under the law".

2: The prosecution "applied" the "act of aiding and abetting" of "Article 22, Paragraph 4, Item 4 of the Immigration Control Act (cancellation of residence status)" to the violation of Article 70 of the Immigration Control Act as the "crime of aiding and abetting" of Articles 60 and 62 of the Criminal Code. In this case, the provisions of the Immigration Control Act (administrative measures) take precedence.

Prosecutors do not have the "legal skills" to prepare an indictment. Prosecutors do not have the "legal ability" to prepare an indictment. In Japanese, it's like "mixing miso paste and feces."

In 2010, "me and the Chinese" who violated the Immigration Control Act, and in 2013, Philippine embassy staff and diplomats were also punished for the same reason.

Under pressure from the international community, the Japanese government revised the Immigration Control Act.

However, the Japanese government has not "apology" to "me, the Chinese, and the Filipinos." It has not "restored their honor or paid compensation."

In response to criticism from the international community, the Japanese government amended the Immigration Control Act in December 2016 to make it punishable to "provide" a "false employment contract." This came into effect in January 2017.

However, Article 39 of the Constitution means that people cannot be "punished" "retroactively."

Japan needs to re-educate its special-class public servants and educate its Diet members on the Constitution and laws.

"Chapter 4." Look at the "indictment."

The facts stated "state" the "facts" of "innocence." (Japanese/English)

"My Claim" (Japanese)

This case is an error in the arbitrary application of the law by police officers, prosecutors, and judges. Reeducation of special public officials is necessary.

"Chinese, Korean, Filipino, American, etc." There are tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of victims all over the world. It's an abnormal number.

"Chapter 5". After his release, he emailed the Japanese embassy, OHCHR, and ICC for help.

The ambassador of African country A cannot protest to the Japanese government in his capacity as ambassador. (Because country A is supported by the Japanese government), but he can get his friends at the ICC to take action.

I think an international organization probably pointed this out to the Japanese government.

After that, the Immigration Control Act was amended in December 2016 to make it possible to punish the act of providing false employment contracts. This came into effect in January 2017.

But no one has not notified us of anything.

Furthermore, Article 39 of the Constitution stipulates that laws cannot be applied retroactively to punish people.

There are tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands, of victims around the world, and they are said to be "Chinese, Korean, Filipino, American, etc." This is an abnormal number.

The rest will be published in the Sunday edition.
