クリスチャンとホモフォビア

シカゴにある神学校に今年1月The Lesbian and Gay Religious Studies Centerが設立され、その案内の最初の言葉が“Religion has been hijacked to justify homophobia. It's time to take it back”（信仰がホモフォビアを正当化するために奪われてきた。今取り戻すときがきた）。なんてパワフルなメッセージなのだろう。

ここ最近、保守的な信者や聖職者がパートナーシップ法の施行をめぐって政治的な圧力をかけるニュースを頻繁に目にする。そのたびに信仰をたてに同性愛批判を助長し圧力をかけクリスチャンの言動に怒りや悲しみを覚えずにはいられなかった。彼らの言動が、LGBTで純粋な信仰をもつ若い人たちをどれだけ傷つけ、苦しめているのか彼らにはまったく理解できず、その痛みを想像すらできないだろう。

なんの権限があって彼らは同性愛者を阻害し差別できるのか。
ましてやLGBTのクリスチャンを批判したり、差別することなど彼らにはできないはずだ。なぜなら主のもとに、皆、平等なのだから。

ガラテヤ信徒への手紙3.26－28にはっきりと次のように記されています。
「あなたがたは皆、信仰により、キリスト・イエスに結ばれて神の子なのです。洗礼を受けてキリストに結ばれたあなた方は皆、キリストを着ているからです。そこではもはや、ユダヤ人もギリシャ人もなく、奴隷も自由な身分の者なく、男も女もありません。あなたがたは皆、キリスト・イエスにおいて一つだからです。」

彼らは自分のホモフォビアを信仰をたてに正当化しようとしているだけなのだ。

そしてイエスは次のように教えています。
「人々ににくまれるとき、また人の子のために追い出され、ののしられ、汚名を着せられるとき、あなた方は幸いである」（ルカ6.27）

同性愛者がキリストの名のもとに迫害されるならば、まちがいなく主は私たちに幸いを与えてくださるだろう。

愛するということ

聖書では、神は愛であると教えている。
「愛は神から出るもので、愛する者は皆、神から生まれ、神を知っているからです」
（ヨハネの手紙１　４：７）

しかしその愛がいけないこと、社会では認められない愛だと言われたら
これ以上の苦しみはない。

愛する人と一緒にいられない。
愛する人と共にいることが祝福されない。
愛する人のことを隠さなくてはいけない。

愛すること自体が苦しみになり、愛することが罪深いことになり、
愛するがゆえに自分を責め、苦しむ。

心の底から愛してしまった人が同性だからといって、
その愛は異性への愛とどこが違うというのだろう。

異性であろうが、同性であろうが、人を愛することに変わりはない。
なのに異性への愛は祝福され、同性への愛は差別と偏見にさらされる。

愛する人が同性であることが問題ではなく、同性を愛すること自体がいけないことだと教える
社会のあり方の方が実は問題なのだ。

しかしそのことに気づき、ありのままの自分でいいと心が解放されるまで、
同性愛者は自分を責め、悩み苦しむ。

愛することは苦しみではなく、心の平安と喜びと感謝をもたらすはずなのに・・・
すべての人が心の底から愛することに喜びを見出せる社会になることを望む。

キリスト教と同性愛

クリスチャンであることと同性愛者であること。
この問題は今、世界中のキリスト教会でもめにもめている。

聖書では、神様がこの世に男と女を創られた。ふたりは結婚して云々と・・・書かれているし、
男が男を求めるのは罪とも書かれている。

この聖書の言葉によって、保守的なクリスチャンは同性愛者を罪深いものとし、教会から排除し、
過去にAIDS/HIV患者へのひどい差別的発言を行ってきた。これまで多くの同性愛クリスチャンが
自分を罪深い存在であると悩み苦しんできた。

しかしこれまで保守的とされてきた聖公会で、自分がゲイであることを公言しているアメリカの牧師が
主教に選ばれたこと、そして同性愛者への差別的発言への謝罪などによって、世界的大組織である聖公会
が組織分裂になりかねないくらい大いにもめているわけだ・・・。

この議論に関していえば、私は教会組織にそれほど貢献をしているわけではないし、
教会組織をどうすればいいのかなどの判断はくだせない。

ただ言えることは、同性愛者であっても、神を信じ、主を信じ、その大きな愛によって救われた
クリスチャンが大勢いるということはまぎれもない事実だし、同性愛者だろうが異性愛者だろうが
同じ弱い弱い人間で、主によって同じように生かされているということだ。

そして何よりも、人間は過ちを犯す、完璧な存在ではない。
ただ神のみが絶対に正しく、完璧な存在なのだ。
その神を信じる自分がクリスチャンであり、同性愛者であるのだから、前をしっかり見つめて顔をあげて
生きていけばいい。自分を罪深い存在などと悩み苦しむことはないのだ。
