先日、「ドクターヘリ」のことについて記事を投稿したところ

次のようなコメントがありました

こんばんわ、湖の麓様。

アメリカに頼んで、オスプレイを実験で一機入れてもらえないでしょうかね。
故障や事故率は過去の数値のようですし、
ヘリより速くて航続距離が長いのなら、
とても有用かと思います。
病院設備丸ごと移動可能なら、とても役に立ちますよね。

戦争の道具ではなく、人命救助の道具として
活躍できれば良いな～と、思いました。

以前、中学生の生徒がアメリカの芸能人にファンレターを英語で書いたら返事が来たことを思い出しました

それで、ホワイト・ハウスの住所で検索したところ

こちら

が見つかり、大統領は様々な人からの手紙やコメント、メールを大歓迎していると書かれていたので書きました


内容、訳せますか？

Dear President Obama,


Greetings from Hokkaido, Japan.

I know that you are terribly busy but I just came up with an idea.


This is the news article writing about the doctor helicopter in Hokkaido.

As you can see on the picture to the right, there’s three red circles on the island of Hokkaido.

Do you know what this mean? It means that there exists only three doctor helicopters in the vast

island of Hokkaido.

The red dot inside the green area is Sapporo. The red one in the purple is Asahikawa and the

one in the orange is Kushiro.

The red circle’s radius is 100km. Yes, 100km! That means it takes at least over an hour to

drive by car. So what I want to say is that even if the ambulance runs at the full speed, it

takes that long.

Please think or imagine if your beloved family member is really sick, say like a heart attack or

apoplectic stroke. Do you think he or she will survive? I DON’T think so.

It is a matter of 10 minutes or so. We need more doctor helicopters.

Look at the parts that are white or yellow. Those who live there are not able to get the

advantage of doctor helicopters even if they are about to die. It means if there’s any

American tourists around there happened to have a heart attack, they just are carried in an

ambulance and it means they will not live.

The problem with Osprey, why don’t you suggest that your country or your army (Air Force)

will fly for the urgent patient. That will surely touch the Japanese people’s heart.

It is not just the minister of foreign affair who are responsible for those things. People to

people, or person to person, I guess can do something. It may be a little start, but isn’t that

like the work of Mother Teresa?

I know that you are terribly busy, but I will be happy if I can hear from you.

The Man Who Planted Trees ( L'homme qui plantait des arbres )

The story begins in the year 1910, when this young man is undertaking a lone hiking trip through Provence, France, and into the Alps, enjoying the relatively unspoiled wilderness.
この青年がプロヴァンス（フランス）で孤独なハイキング旅行を行っていて、アルプス山脈に、比較的損なわれていない荒野を楽しんでいるとき、話は1910年に始まります。

The narrator runs out of water in a treeless, desolate valley where only wild lavender grows and there is no trace of civilization except old, empty crumbling buildings. The narrator finds only a dried up well, but is saved by a middle-aged shepherd who takes him to a spring he knows of.
野生のラベンダーだけが成長する、そして、文明の跡が古い、空の砕けている建物以外はない、樹木のない、荒涼とした谷で、ナレーターは水が尽きます。ナレーターは乾燥する井戸だけを見つけるが、彼を彼が知っている春へ泉へ連れて行く中年の羊飼いによって救われます。

Curious about this man and why he has chosen such a lonely life, the narrator stays with him for a time. The shepherd, after being widowed, has decided to restore the ruined landscape of the isolated and largely abandoned valley by single-handedly cultivating a forest, tree by tree. The shepherd, Elzéard Bouffier, makes holes in the ground with his curling pole and drops into the holes acorns that he has collected from many miles away.

The narrator makes a full recovery in the peace and beauty of the regrowing valley, and continues to visit Bouffier every year. Bouffier is no longer a shepherd, because he is worried about the sheep affecting his young trees, and has become a bee keeper instead.

Over four decades, Bouffier continues to plant trees, and the valley is turned into a kind of Garden of Eden. By the end of the story, the valley is vibrant with life and is peacefully settled. The valley receives official protection after the First World War. (the authorities mistakenly believe that the rapid growth of this forest is a bizarre natural phenomenon, as they are unaware of Bouffier's selfless deeds), and more than 10,000 people move there, all of them unknowingly owing their happiness to Bouffier. The narrator tells one of his friends in the government the truth about the natural forest, and the friend also helps protect the forest.

The narrator visits the now very old Bouffier one last time in 1945. In a hospice in Banon, in 1947, the man who planted trees peacefully passes away.

The story itself is so touching that many readers have believed that Elzéard Bouffier was a genuine historical figure and that the narrator of the story was a young Jean Giono himself, and that the tale is part autobiographical. Certainly, Giono lived during this time. While he was alive, Giono enjoyed allowing people to believe that the story was real, and considered it as a tribute to his skill. His daughter, Aline Giono, described it as "a family story for a long time". However, Giono himself explained in a 1957 letter to an official of the city of Digne:

Sorry to disappoint you, but Elzéard Bouffier is a fictional person. The goal was to make trees likeable, or more specifically, make planting trees likeable.

新幹線の「のぞみ」と「ひかり」の違い

What's the difference between Shinkansen,the bullet train「Nozomi」and 「Hikari」?

こちらが「のぞみ」

This one is 「The Superexpress Nozomi.」

This one is 「Hikari.」

新幹線の「のぞみ」と「ひかり」の違い

What's the difference between Shinkansen,the bullet train「Nozomi」and 「Hikari」?

自信はないのですが

「ひかり」より「のぞみ」の方が停車する駅が少なく短い時間で行けるってことくらいでしょうか

The Superexpress Nozomi stops at fewer stations compared to Hikari and can go to the destination faster.

その分料金も高いです

It means at the same time that the Superexpress Nozomi's fare is higher.

停車する駅を確認してから乗るのが良いと思います（止まらない場合もあるので）

You'd better check in advance, before you get on, if the Superexpress Nozomi stops at the station you want to get off　or not.

It doesn't stop at certain stations.

Doctor Dolittle ドクター・ドリトル

あらすじ

幼少時代、ジョン・ドリトルは動物と会話ができるという超能力を持っていましたが

父親に異常だと思われ、愛犬と弾きはなされてからは動物を拒絶し、動物と会話することはなくなりました

その後、成人したジョンは美しい妻や２人の娘にも恵まれ、また病院の医者としても活躍し、幸せな日々を送っていました

そんなある日、病院から帰る途中、ジョンは車で野良犬を轢いてしまいました

しかし轢き殺されてしまったと思った犬が突然「気をつけろ！マヌケ野郎！」と怒鳴りつけたことから

ジョンの身辺に大きな変化がおこります


Storyline

Dr.John Dolittle has the world in his hands; A beautiful wife at his side

two adorable daughters and a careere that could not go better.

One night, he nearly runs over a dog with his car.

The dog yells 「bonehead」and disappears.

ここで２つの違いが見られます。

まず、日本では主語がたいてい母親ひとりです。

In Japan, the subject of the sentence is 90% mother herself.


外国では主語は父親と母親とふたりです。

In foreign countries, the subject of the sentence will be of both the father and the mother.

So they use the word we.


そして「人さまの迷惑にならなければ」という日本的発想と「人のお役にたてる子になってほしい」という外国の発想。

The very difference is in Japan , parents are happy if the child does not cause troubles.

But whereas in foreign countries, parents wish their child to be of use of someone in need.

「ちいむら」イングリッシュ・キャンプは今回、記念すべき第１回です

このキャンプのルーツとなるものは

摩周湖の麓の大自然の中で、朝から晩まで、出来る限り英語を使い意思疎通をはかる努力をすることです

仲間と２泊３日の共同生活の中で、助け合い、励まし合いながら楽しいひとときを過ごすこと、思い出を作ることです


道東の田舎に、世界・全国から人が集まり、ローカルながらもグローバルな語り合いのひとときをもつこと

そのことによって、広い視野を持つことができるようになることを目標としています



皆さん、「ちいむら」イングリッシュ・キャンプへ参加しませんか？

今回は、記念すべき第１回です

このキャンプを開催できることを大変嬉しく思っています

これからも、継続して開催していきたいと心から願っています


私は授業の度に、皆さんに申しているのですけれども

皆さんは大変英語に熱心ですし上手です

でも、英語というのは日本語や、その他の各国の言葉と同じで一つの道具です

とても、便利な道具です

世界中で英語はつかわれています

そういった意味でとても多くの国の言葉の中でも、一番便利な言葉の一つです

道具が重要、あるいは大切なのではない

皆さんがその道具をどういうふうに使っていくか、それが一番大事なことだと思います

私はそう思いますけれども、同じ英語を話すのであれば、美しい英語を話してもらいたい

そして正しい英語を話してもらいたい

そのためには皆さんが日頃使っている日本語が美しく、正しくなければならないと思います

日本語がちゃんと喋れない人が英語をちゃんと喋れると私は思いません

ですから、英語を勉強すると同時に国語や、その他の学校の学科

あるいはお父さん、お母さん、身の回りの方々から学ぶことはたくさんあります

そしてどんどん、どんどん知識を深めて

自分を磨いていって、そしてその上で美しく正しい日本語を使う

美しく、正しい英語、その他の外国語を使えることになっていただきたいと思います

美しく正しい英語、その他の外国語を使えることができたときに、本当にいいコミュニケーションが生まれるのではないかな、というふうに思います


世界は今だんだん地球時代になってきましたけれども

まだまだ言葉の壁、あるいは習慣、あるいは宗教の壁というのは大きいものがあると思います

そういう壁に窓を開ける、ドアを作る、交流ができるようにする

その一つの大きくて便利な道具が外国と、英語であると思います


ですから、みなさん、これからも一生懸命頑張って

皆さんももう英語に関しては大変好きになっていると思いますし

誰から言われなくてもどんどん勉強すると思いますけれども

それ以外の授業を一生懸命頑張って、素晴らしい日本語を喋れる日本人に

その上で素晴らしい英語や外国語を喋れる国際人になっていただきたいと思います


ご父兄の方々にも、温かくこのキャンプを見守っていただきたいと願っております

Toy Story MANIA! is new open at Tokyo Disney Sea.

Toy Story Mania! is an interactive 3-D theme park attraction which lets gamers join their favorite characters from the hit Pixar film Toy Story.
