道可道、非常道。名可名、非常名。無名天地之始、有名萬物之母。故常無欲以觀其妙、常有欲以觀其徼。此兩者同出而異名。同謂之玄。玄之又玄、衆妙之門。

道(みち)の道とすべきは、常(つね)の道に非(あら)ず。名(な)の名とすべきは、常の名に非ず。名無きは天地(てんち)の始め、名有るは万物(ばんぶつ)の母。故(ゆえ)に常(つね)に無欲(むよく)にしてその妙を観、常に有欲にしてその徼を観る。この両者は同じきに出でて而(しか)も名を異(こと)にす。同じきをこれを玄(げん)と謂(い)い、玄のまた玄は、衆妙(しゅうみょう)の門なり。

"A way" you can call it way is not the great everlasting way.
これが「道」だと言い表せる様な道は、偉大なる不朽の道ではない。
"A name" you can call it name is not the true unchangeable name.
これが「名」だと呼べる様な名は、真実不変の名ではない。
There was no name when the world was created.
天地が創られた時には名など存在せず、
After all things were created, they were named.
万物が生み出された後にそれらは名づけられたのだ。
So if you are disinterested, you could see profound forms of all things.
だから無欲な心をもってすれば、万物の深遠なる姿を見る事ができるだろう。
If you are greedy, you can see only surface of them.
欲望の虜のままでは、万物の上辺の姿しか見る事ができない。
The source of both of them is the same one.
この両者の根源は同じ一つの物であるのに、それぞれ別の名を持っている。
