5thly, Language is a root of everything of a country, a nation, a person. It is a deadline for them.
Here, I want to borrow the name of a famous American TV serial- <Root>. Although I have never watched it, I know what is it talking about from other's introduction.
What does root mean for them? For a country, it means her land & her people; for a nation, it means her culture & her people; for a person, it means her family and her language,
I want to tell a tradition in our country. In the past, there are the most immigrants who moved oversea from our area and south-min(闽南) area in our country when they were young, because they were forced by lives' pressures or cheated and kidnap by those traders in human beings. Before they left, they would use a small bag to fill a full cup of soil in the land of their hometown and carefully carried with them to a new place. This full bag of soil from home, in their lives would reduce the homesickness, would reduce their fear and give them the power, and they believed even if they had some fatal illnesses, when they would smell it or taste it, it would had the magic function... it usually would go along with their whole lives. A cup of soil from hometown, it is one of the root of those immigrants.
I am not one of those. But I could feel their lonely hearts and the last keeping in their hearts.Those are their roots. Many years later, if they could have some chance to come back, they could still use their language smoothly even if they have lived many dozens years oversea. Because they insist their language is another important root in their lives. And, at the same time, a lot of traditional customs, with hometown's development are fading or disappearing, they could be protected in oversea, because they, those immigrants believe these atre their roots.
4 days ago, I walked in the street, 4 middle school students were walking in front of me, too. They were using mandarin to talk with each other, 1 girl with obvious local accent. Without 0108事件, I wouldnot think more even through I have seen this kind before. When I was young, the situation is different. Those new immigrants from inland, would like to talk with us with our local language with obvious local accent. They were doing their best to initiative the local society. This is natural thought. But now, managers change all of these. They not only cut off the root of local's youth, but also make them believe that speaking mandarin is prouder than using our local language.
A ship without the archor, it could float to anywhere then sink for crashing rocks. How about the people if they lost their roots?
