Nippon Steel is focusing on the technology of a subsidiary of US Steel.

Yasuhiro Nagano Opinion

Sunday Edition, April 20, 2025
Thank you, President Trump. President Trump has ordered a new review by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States of Nippon Steel's plan to acquire U.S. Steel. Biden has abandoned the Rust Belt. Trump has "changed his mind." Good luck, Trump.

President Trump said the purpose of the review is "to help determine whether further action on the acquisition is appropriate." Nippon Steel's acquisition plan may move forward.

This makes the "revival of the Rust Belt" clear. People of the Rust Belt, "happiness" is just around the corner.

Hyundai Steel, a member of the Hyundai Motor Group, will build an electric furnace steelworks with an annual production capacity of 2.7 million tons in Louisiana, a Sun Belt, to produce steel sheets for automobiles.

Nippon Steel chose U.S. Steel, which is located in the Rust Belt, the origin of American industry. Like U.S. Steel, Nippon Steel chose a steelworks named after the country as its acquisition partner. Nippon Steel is betting its "company fortunes" on the revival of the "Rust Belt."

"US Steel" operates 12 blast furnaces in the US, including its flagship Gary Works. Its annual steel production capacity is said to be 19.4 million tons. Nippon Steel is trying to restructure the company, but Biden "got in the way".

US Steel operates the Gary Works (Gary, Indiana), Granite City Works (Metropolitan St. Louis, Illinois), Fairfield Works (suburban Birmingham, Alabama), and Great Lakes Works (near Detroit, Michigan).

US Steel also operates the Mon Valley Works (a collective name for several plants, including the Homestead Works, located on the Monongahela River near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania).

US Steel doesn't stop there, it also operates two in Central Europe: US Steel Kosice in Slovakia and US Steel Serbia (Smetelevo).

What Nippon Steel is paying attention to is the technology of a US Steel subsidiary. The plan is to build a steel furnace using American natural gas as a heat source. If successful, I think it will be introduced in Japanese steel mills as well.

President Trump is keen to utilize American natural gas. Nippon Steel is thinking of responding to President Trump's passion through the steel industry. It will probably be the world's first steel furnace. It will be the first step in reviving the American steel industry.

I think Hyundai's steel mill will probably be an electric furnace that uses electricity. In a decarbonized society, it will be an electric furnace that uses scrap instead of iron ore.

However, blast furnaces that use iron ore and coke to make crude steel from iron ore are also important. In the future, Nippon Steel will establish the technology to make crude steel from blast furnaces and natural gas.

With this, US Steel will be the world's number one steel company in both name and reality. Nippon Steel has nurtured Chinese and Korean steel companies into the world's number one steel companies.

This time, Nippon Steel will foster the revival of US Steel, the "king of steel manufacturing." Nippon Steel has the technical capabilities to make US Steel the world's best steel company.

I think "rationalization" is necessary to make US Steel the world's best steel company. Japanese steel mills are "almost unmanned." US Steel should also plan to rationalize and become the "world's best steel mill."

Nippon Steel has not fired a single worker through "rationalization" so far. I think US Steel will also make a contract not to fire a single worker through "rationalization."

If possible, I think US Steel workers should withdraw from the "Democratic" USW and form a "pro-Republican" labor union. The Republican Party should seriously consider this.

I think there will be more resistance to creating a "Republican" "labor union" than to the "Trump tariffs." However, a "pro-Republican labor union" is necessary to strengthen American industry.

Part 2: Immigration Law Violation Cases, Sunday Edition

Chapter 7: When I was released from prison after completing my sentence, I read the newspaper and found out that a similar incident had occurred at the Philippine Embassy.

Philippine diplomats, embassy staff, and Filipino drivers have suffered the same damage as me.

I have also filed a criminal accusation against this case.

I and the Chinese in the 2010 immigration law violation case, and the Philippine Embassy staff and diplomats in 2013, were punished for the same reason.

I have submitted my complaint and the complaints of the Chinese and Filipinos to the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, the Tokyo High Public Prosecutors Office, and the Supreme Public Prosecutors Office.

However, all of them were rejected. If the prosecutor accepts and rejects the case, I can request the Prosecutor's Review Board to prosecute, but I have no way to oppose the rejection.

I also appealed to political parties and Diet members. But they were all ignored.

A city council member accompanied me to the Democratic Party's legal advisor. However, the advisor's answer was that if the "principal offense" is found guilty, then the "crime of aiding and abetting" is established. Is he really a lawyer?

The Democratic Party's legal advisor says that all those who graduated from the Legal Training and Research Institute have the same answer. This is proof that Japan is not "governed under the law".

I asked the Japan Bar Association for support. They said that the JFBA does not have the "power" to solve the problem. Japan's "judicial system" is crazy.

I have "emailed" "political parties and Diet members", as well as "the Prime Minister's Office and the Human Rights Bureau" on "Facebook and (X)", but they are still ignoring me.

This case is an arbitrary misapplication of the law by police officers, prosecutors, and judges. (It is an illegal act).

The charges are "Abuse of the authority of a special public official" and "Crimes of False Complaints".

In my "personal opinion," the prosecutors "concealed" the "criminal complaint" and "criminal accusation" by their "authority." Therefore, the "statute of limitations" has been suspended.

"Chapter 8." This case is "legally" an "error in the application of law."
"Errors in the application of law" are not subject to "requests for retrial" under the "Criminal Procedure Law."

However, if the "crime of the inspectors and police officers involved in the case" is "proven," a request for retrial can be made.

1. The charge against the "special public officials" in this case is "abuse of the authority of special public officials."
They "arrested" us even though there was "no suspicion of a crime." And they even "detained" us. (There is a precedent for grand jury decisions.)
2. And it is "the crime of false accusation." It is a fact that they "indicted" us and even found us guilty in a "trial" in order to make us criminals.

Requests for retrial can be made by us or by the prosecutors.
I believe that the prosecution should admit guilt and make a request for a retrial.

I will not give up. It has been 15 years since the incident.

The only country that can resolve this case is the United States.
When Trump was the former president, he promised me.

He replied with a signed letter saying, "I will resolve this in a way that satisfies you."

I hope that this time he will keep his promise.

President Trump, let's work together to "revive the Rust Belt" and create a "special zone on the Mexican border."

And let's cross the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean in two hours with the "American Linear Canal Railway," a freight train dedicated to containers that will replenish the Panama Canal.

People around the world, please support us.
