[6] 動詞seemを使った文例
seemは、「推測」を表し、「～そうだ」「～のようだ」といった意味で使われます。
写真を見て、事実はどうかわからないが、「～そうだ」と推測する場合に使われます。原則として「seem to+原形動詞フレーズ」のパターンで使われますが、形容詞や名詞の場合は(1)(2)や(4)のようにto beが省略される場合が多いです。
(1) The baby seems (to be) afraid.
その赤ん坊は怖がっているようだ
(2) The baby seems (to be) asleep.
その赤ん坊は眠っているようだ
(3) He seems to be in pain.
彼は苦しそうだ、痛そうだ
(4) He seems (to be) a photographer.
