他の生徒さんが欠席していて、二人だけだったのは幸運でした。
イアンは、カナダには悲しい歴史があると言って、カナダ先住民族の過去と現状について話してくれました。そして、英語の聞き取り能力に合わせて、丁寧に優しい言葉で教えてくれました。いつもの弾けるような笑い声はなくて、真剣な表情でした。
それ以降、私はこれまで全く関心を持っていなかった事について、YouTubeで調べてみました。大西洋三角貿易、オーストラリア先住民アボリジニ、南北アメリカ大陸の先住民インディオ、北アメリカのネイティブ・アメリカン・インデアン
そして、日本のアイヌ民族、今も残る被差別地域についても、関心を持っています。
