『日本書紀』 黄泉の国 1
然後、伊弉諾尊、追伊弉冉尊、入於黃泉而及之共語時、伊弉冉尊曰「吾夫君尊、何來之晩也。吾已湌泉之竈矣。雖然、吾當寢息、請勿視之。」伊弉諾尊、不聽、陰取湯津爪櫛、牽折其雄柱、以爲秉炬而見之者、則膿沸蟲流。今世人、夜忌一片之火・又夜忌擲櫛、此其緣也。時、伊弉諾尊、大驚之曰「吾不意、到於不須也凶目汚穢之國矣。」乃急走廻歸。于時、伊弉冉尊恨曰「何不用要言、令吾恥辱。」乃遣泉津醜女八人、一云泉津日狹女、追留之。故伊弉諾尊、拔劒背揮以逃矣。因投黑鬘、此卽化成蒲陶、醜女見而採噉之、噉了則更追。伊弉諾尊、又投湯津爪櫛、此卽化成筍、醜女亦以拔噉之、噉了則更追。後則伊弉冉尊、亦自來追。是時、伊弉諾尊、已到泉津平坂。一云「伊弉諾尊、乃向大樹放尿、此卽化成巨川。泉津日狹女、將渡其水之間、伊弉諾尊、已至泉津平坂。」故便以千人所引磐石、塞其坂路、與伊弉冉尊相向而立、遂建絶妻之誓。
時伊弉冉尊曰「愛也吾夫君、言如此者、吾當縊殺汝所治國民日將千頭。」伊弉諾尊、乃報之曰「愛也吾妹、言如此者、吾則當産日將千五百頭。」因曰「自此莫過。」卽投其杖、是謂岐神也、又投其帶、是謂長道磐神、又投其衣、是謂煩神、又投其褌、是謂開囓神、又投其履、是謂道敷神。其於泉津平坂、或所謂泉津平坂者、不復別有處所、但臨死氣絶之際、是之謂歟。所塞磐石、是謂泉門塞之大神也、亦名道返大神矣。
≪英訳≫
Afterward, Izanagi-no-Mikoto pursued Izanami-no-Mikoto and entered Yomi. When he reached her, Izanami said, ‘My husband, why have you come so late? I’ve already cooked the food of Yomi. I’m resting now, so please don’t disturb me.’
Izanagi didn’t listen and secretly took the Yotsutsuki-kushi comb, snapped a male pillar, intending to light a torch to see. But then, pus and insects overflowed. This is why people today avoid leaving even a single fire lit at night and throwing combs.
Izanagi was greatly shocked and said, ‘I never expected it to be a country so impure and full of malignancy as this.’ He hurriedly returned.
At that time, Izanami felt resentment, saying, ‘Why didn’t you use proper words, bringing shame upon me?’ She sent eight ugly women, some call them Izanami’s women, to detain him. So Izanagi drew his sword, swung it behind him as he fled. He also threw a black wig, which turned into kudzu. The women picked it up and ate it. After eating it, they continued to pursue him.
Izanagi then threw the Yotsutsuki-kushi comb, which turned into bamboo shoots. The women picked it up and ate it as well. After eating it, they still pursued him.
Later, Izanami herself came after him. By then, Izanagi had arrived at the slope of Yotsutsu, where it is said that Izanagi urinated against a large tree which turned into a great river. The women were about to cross it, but Izanagi had already reached the Yotsutsu slope.
Therefore, he used a boulder, which a thousand people had pulled, to block the path. He faced Izanami, and they made an oath of separation.
At that time, Izanami said, ‘My beloved husband, if you do this, I will kill a thousand people of the country you rule every day.’
Izanagi replied, ‘My beloved sister, if you do this, I will give birth to a thousand five hundred demons every day.’
Then, he said, ‘From now on, let there be no contact.’ He threw his staff, which became the Gi-no-kami. He threw his sash, which became the Nagatou-iwa-no-kami. He threw his clothing, which became the Wazu-no-kami. He threw his loincloth, which became the Akebikami. He threw his shoes, which became the Michishiki-no-kami.
As for the Yotsutsu slope, or what is called the Yotsutsu slope, there is no separate place for it. It is said to be the moment when one’s life breath ceases, that’s all. The boulder blocking the path is the deity of the Yotsu Gate, also called the deity of the Returning Road.
≪この英文の和訳≫
その後、伊弉諾尊（いざなぎのみこと）は伊弉冉尊（いざなみのみこと）を追い、黄泉（よみ）に入り、彼女に追いつきました。伊弉冉尊は言いました。「夫君、なぜこんなに遅くやってきたのですか。私はすでに黄泉の食事を用意しています。今は休んでいるので、お騒がせしないでください。」
しかし、伊弉諾尊はその言葉を無視し、秘密に湯津爪櫛（ゆつづきぐし）という櫛を取り、雄の柱を折り、松明を灯して見ようとしました。その結果、膿と虫が溢れました。このため、今日の人々は夜に火を一つも残さないし、櫛を投げ捨てないのです。
伊弉諾尊は非常に驚き、「こんなに不浄で悪意に満ちた国だとは思いもしませんでした。」と言いました。そして急いで引き返しました。
この時、伊弉冉尊は怒り、「なぜきちんとした言葉を使わなかったのか、私を恥辱に晒すような言葉を使ったのだ。」と言いました。そして、彼女は8人の醜い女性、または泉津日狭女とも呼ばれる女性たちを派遣して、伊弉諾尊を止めようとしました。
それに対して、伊弉諾尊は剣を抜いて、後ろを向いて振りかざしながら逃げました。そして、彼は黒い髪飾りを投げました。それは葛の木に変わりました。女性たちはそれを拾って食べました。食べ終わると、また追いかけました。
伊弉諾尊はその後、湯津爪櫛を投げました。それは筍に変わりました。女性たちもそれを拾って食べました。食べ終わると、また追いかけました。そして、伊弉冉尊自身も追いかけてきました。

伊弉冉尊は言いました。「愛する夫、これを行うのであれば、私の支配する国の人々を毎日千人殺します。」
伊弉諾尊は応えました。「愛する妹、これを行うのであれば、私は毎日千五百の鬼を生みます。」そして、彼は言いました。「これで終わりです。」と言って、杖を投げました。それは岐神（きのかみ）に変わりました。帯を投げました。それは長道磐神（ながとういわのかみ）に変わりました。衣を投げました。それは煩神（わずのかみ）に変わりました。褌を投げました。それは開囓神（あけはぎのかみ）に変わりました。履を投げました。それは道敷神（みちしきのかみ）に変わりました。
泉津平坂、または泉門塞之大神（いずみもんせいのおおかみ）とも呼ばれる磐石は、死者の息が絶える場所であり、道返大神（みちかえのおおかみ）とも言われています。
