穴穂天皇
(あなほのすめらみこと)
穴穗天皇、雄朝津間稚子宿禰天皇第二子也。一云、第三子也。母曰忍坂大中姬命、稚渟毛二岐皇子之女也。卌二年春正月、天皇崩、冬十月葬禮畢之。
是時、太子行暴虐、淫于婦女。國人謗之、群臣不從、悉隸穴穗皇子。爰太子、欲襲穴穗皇子而密設兵。穴穗皇子、復興兵將戰、故穴穗括箭・輕括箭、始起于此時也。時太子、知群臣不從百姓乖違、乃出之、匿物部大前宿禰之家。穴穗皇子聞則圍之、大前宿禰出門而迎之、穴穗皇子歌之曰、
於朋摩弊 烏摩弊輸區泥餓 訶那杜加礙 訶區多智豫羅泥 阿梅多知夜梅牟
大前宿禰答歌之曰、
瀰椰比等能 阿由臂能古輸孺 於智珥岐等 瀰椰比等々豫牟 佐杜弭等茂由梅
乃啓皇子曰「願勿害太子、臣將議。」由是、太子自死于大前宿禰之家。一云、流伊豫國。
≪英訳≫
Anaho no SumeraMikoto(Emperor Anko) was the second son of Emperor Ingyo, though some accounts say he was the third. His mother was Princess Oshisaka no Oonakatsuhime, daughter of Prince Wakanuke Futamata. In the spring of the 42nd year of his reign, in January, the Emperor passed away.
The funeral rites were completed in the winter, in October. During this time, the Crown Prince, Prince Kinashi Karu, was involved in a scandal due to his inappropriate behavior with women (specifically, he had an affair with his sister, Princess Karu no Ooiratsume). This led to widespread criticism from the people. The ministers and the people no longer supported the Crown Prince and instead turned their allegiance to Prince Anaho. In response, Crown Prince Karu secretly gathered soldiers to attack Prince Anaho.
Prince Anaho, in turn, gathered his own soldiers to prepare for battle. It was at this time that Anaho arrows (made of copper) and Karu arrows (made of iron) were first created. Seeing that the ministers and the people were abandoning him, Crown Prince Karu left the palace and hid in the house of Mononobe no Ohmae no Sukune. Upon hearing this, Prince Anaho surrounded Sukune's house with his soldiers.
Ohmae no Sukune came out to greet Prince Anaho and welcomed him with a poem:
"Ohmae, Omae, you stand in the shadow of the golden gate,
Let us all gather here,
To take shelter from the rain."
Ohmae no Sukune responded with another poem:
"The small bells on the foot bindings of those serving at the court,
Have fallen, causing an uproar,
An ill omen indeed,
Those in the village should also take heed."
He then pleaded with Prince Anaho, "Please, do not kill Crown Prince Karu. Allow me to find a solution."
Thus, Crown Prince Karu took his own life in the house of Ohmae no Sukune. Another account states that he was exiled to Iyo Province.
≪この英文の和訳≫
穴穂天皇（あなほてんのう）は允恭天皇（いんぎょうてんのう）の第二子ですが、一説には第三子とも言われています。母親は稚淳毛二岐皇子（わかぬけふたまたのみこ）の娘である忍坂大中姫命（おしさかのおおなかつひめのみこと）です。天皇は即位してから四十二年目の春、一月に崩御（ほうぎょ）されました。
葬儀はその年の冬、十月に終わりました。その時、太子である木梨軽皇子（きなしのかるのみこ）が不適切な行動（特に同母妹の軽大娘皇女（かるのおおいらつめ）との不倫）をしたため、人々から批判されました。大臣たちも民衆も太子を支持せず、穴穂皇子（あなほのみこ）に味方しました。これに対し、軽太子（かるのたいし）は密かに兵を集めて穴穂皇子を襲おうとしました。
穴穂皇子も自分の兵を集め、戦いに備えました。この時、穴穂矢（あなほや）（銅製の矢じり）や軽矢（かるや）（鉄製の矢じり）が初めて作られました。軽太子は大臣や民衆が自分から離れていくのを見て、宮殿を出て物部大前宿禰（もののべのおおまえのすくね）の家に隠れました。それを知った穴穂皇子は、兵士に宿禰の家を囲ませました。
大前宿禰が出てきて、穴穂皇子を迎え入れました。穴穂皇子は次のように歌いました。
於朋摩弊 烏摩弊輸區泥餓 訶那杜加礙 訶區多智豫羅泥 阿梅多知夜梅牟
オホマへ、ヲマヘスクネガ、カナトカゲ、カクタチヨラネ、アメタチヤメム
「大前(おおまえ)、小前(おまえ)の宿禰(すくね)の家の、金門(かなと)の蔭に、このようにみんな立寄りなさい。雨宿りをして行こう」
大前宿禰は次のように返歌しました。
瀰椰比等能 阿由臂能古輸孺 於智珥岐等 瀰椰比等々豫牟 佐杜弭等茂由梅
ミヤヒ卜ノ、アユヒノコスズ、オチニキ卜、ミヤヒ卜卜ヨム、サトヒトモユメ
宮廷にお仕えする人の、足結(あゆい)につける小鈴が落ちたと、人々がどよめいている。不吉なことです。里に下っている人たちも気をつけなさい
そして、穴穂皇子にこう言いました。「どうか軽太子を殺さないでください。私がなんとかします。」
このようにして、軽太子は大前宿禰の家で自殺しました。一説には伊予国（いよのくに）に流されたとも言われています。
