His favorite

2023-11-30 04:25:02 | English Notes

These are my father-in-law's favorite mushrooms called Matsutake mushroom.

Last autumn, he invested as much as 18,000 yen on some matsutake mushrooms.

He cooked sukiyaki with them and ate all of them by himself!

Before that, I knew he wanted to get sukiyaki beef, so I bought some high-end sukiyaki beef which cost about 10,000 yen.

I expected he would give me some when he cooked it.   I couldn't believe how he could eat all of them and was surprised to know he was so greedy!

The next day, he complained of his bad physical condition.  That's just his desserts.

This summer

2023-10-09 08:06:42 | English Notes

I have been experiencing dizziness since mid-August.  The doctor said it may be because my nervous system was in disorder. I'm much better now, but if I turn around quickly, I still feel dizzy badly.  There are no issues when I use public transportation or drive my car.  THE most challenging task for me is trimming trees.  I have never done this before, but I have to do it now because my father-in-law, who trimmed trees all the time, passed away on last New Year's Eve.

This summer was the first summer without him.

Now I truly understand how hard he worked on the farm and in the garden.

Miss him a lot

2023-10-08 20:09:38 | English Notes

It's been a while since I wrote my last English essay here. I've been busy. Autumn is the only season I feel free and have enough time to read and write. I've started reading some English magazines.  The oldest one was printed  in 2014.   At that time my parents-in-law were still alive, but my mother-in-law passed away in 2016 and my father-in-law passed away last New Year's Eve.  Taking care of her was tiring because she had been sick in bed.  On the other hand, my father-in-law was energetic until he died.  My family misses him a lot.

Traditional Japanese room

2020-12-03 09:41:00 | English Notes
This is a traditional Japanese room with an alcove. This type of Japanese room is used as a guest room. The alcove in this room was decorated with a hanging scroll called kakejiku, and a few Japanese swords have been placed there. A hanging scroll is indispensable, but we usually decorate with a flower arrangement instead of swords. A guest sits in front of the alcove, because the place is considered to be holy and the best seat. A low table must be placed in the center and cushions are used. We avoid using a chair because the floor is covered with tatami, which is fragile and expensive.

2019/09/07 Favorite Sushi

2019-09-07 12:10:00 | English Notes
I went to a sushi restaurant called Kappa Zushi with my son last week.

We hadn't been there for years, so we enjoyed some their unique dishes.

My son used to eat only corn zushi and egg sushi. He couldn't eat raw fish when he was a young boy, so I said to him that he needed to be able to eat raw fish sushi because he is Japanese. My children were picky eaters.  I was tired of thinking about dishes all the time. I needed a maid who could make delicious meals for my children. Help me! I can't pay a lot.

Please give me a discount !

Taco rice and Parfait

2019-08-28 07:44:00 | English Notes
This is a photo of what I ate at a cafeteria at a university hospital several days ago.   It was taco rice, and I'd never eaten it before.  It was as good as I expected/thought it would be. The hospital has many fast-food restaurants, cafes and some convenience stores.  Ordinary hospitals usually don't have them, but instead have a stall which sells newspapers, snacks, and things that patients need while being in hospital.

I also had a parfait.  I thought it had lots of ice cream, but in fact, most of the cream was fresh cream.  I saw a poster for the parfait. It said it had ice cream. The parfait was not bad, but it wasn't what I expected.

Cafe

2019-08-26 13:15:58 | English Notes

This is one of my favorite photos I took by myself.

It was taken in a cafe in the morning.  As you can see, it's a TULLY'S.  The TULLY'S is on the first floor of a bank building.  The building is gray and looks quite stylish on the outside.  It doesn't have any annoying signboards on it.  At first, I didn't notice it was a bank with a cafe, and I  used to pass it on the way home all the time.  It took several weeks until I found out it's a bank.  The cafe doesn't face  the street, but faces  a park behind the building. Therefore, I can see the park through the window while having a meal.

At Nakakawanishi station

2019-08-25 07:23:00 | English Notes

I’m here in Nagoya now.

Yesterday afternoon, I took a train at Nakakawabe station to come here. I got to the station earlier than I expected, so I had enough time to buy a drink from a vending machine, and took the photo that I posted here.  I'd never seen the drink , but as you can see, it looks tasty.  It says it is popular in Romania.  Believe it or not, it's so good!  Let's see if you can find it.

Udon

2019-04-28 06:48:58 | English Notes
These are Japanese noodles called udon. It is popular among not only Japanese people but also people from other countries. Why is udon so popular? It is easy to cook and eat,it tastes good , and moreover it is cheap.
There are some problems. Some people like softly boiled udon and some don't. Japanese people like to slurp udon, but some people from other countries still hate to do so. Some like it hot and some like it cold. So it is not easy to find the best udon for you. I am still looking for my favorite one.

An old memory

2019-04-27 03:30:41 | English Notes
This picture reminds me of an old memory.
When I was in elementary school, I went to a grape farm to harvest grapes with my family. It was easy to find and pick good grapes. The grapes were tasty, so I ate them as many as I could. I enjoyed harvesting and eating a lot, but I got bored and tired quickly. I told my father I wanted to go home, but he said I needed to wait until everyone finished. So I asked him if I could wait in our car, but he said I had to be in the vineyard. I was really tired and wanted to sit or lie down to take a rest. I was depressed.
I have never wanted to go harvesting since.
